Description of energy efficient datacentres
Civo recognises our responsibility to make a positive environmental impact and is committed to achieving "Net Zero" by 2030. The efficiency of our data centres is an important part of our ability to achieve this.

Our UK data centres are leaders in sustainable data centre practices and are powered exclusively by renewable energy sources. Our London facility has one of the lowest PUEs, utilising free-air evaporative cooling and goes a step further by using bio fuel in the generators.

We’re collaborating with Deep Green to harness waste heat generated by servers. This heat isn't simply dissipated; it's repurposed for community projects such as heating local swimming pools.

Civo is committed to running our business in the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly way possible.

Fighting climate change

Civo recognises our responsibility to make a positive environmental impact.

We are committed to achieving "Net Zero" by 2030. This target signifies that we will not only become carbon neutral but go further, actively removing carbon from the atmosphere. To achieve this, we've implemented several initiatives including:

· Renewable Energy: Our cloud platforms are powered exclusively by renewable energy sources.
· Data Centre Efficiency: Our UK data centres are leaders in sustainable datacentre practices. As an example our London facility has one of the lowest PUEs, utilising free-air evaporative cooling and goes a step further by using bio fuel in the generators.
· Waste Heat Repurposing: We’re collaborating with Deep Green to harness waste heat generated by servers. This heat isn't simply dissipated; it's repurposed for community projects such as heating local swimming pools, aligning with International Energy Agency (IEA) carbon reduction guidelines.

Our leadership actively champions the fight against climate change. Our CTO is an active member of the CNCF Sustainability Group, and our CEO frequently speaks at conferences globally on technology sustainability.

Civo invests in Heata, a company dedicated to reusing heat from cloud computing. The Civo Foundation prioritises investments in sustainable technologies, reflecting our commitment to the environment.

Our staff work remotely, eliminating the environmental cost of commuting, further reducing our carbon footprint.

We will include specific and measurable climate change commitments as part of our G-Cloud contracts for customers that require them. These commitments will align with the scope and scale of each contract and each customer’s priorities.
Examples include engagement with our suppliers, staff, and customers to raise awareness about climate change, working collaboratively to deliver solutions to support environmental objectives, training and education to influence sustainable behaviour, and volunteering opportunities for our staff that have a positive environmental impact.

Tackling economic inequality

Civo is committed to empowering individuals and businesses, regardless of background or location, to participate in the digital revolution.

One of the biggest hurdles for SMEs is access to resources. Through our Tech Startup Program, we bridge this gap by providing free scalable cloud computing solutions along with training and tools. This allows SMEs to innovate without being hindered by high costs or vendor lock-in.

Knowledge unlocks economic opportunity. We offer a vast library of free resources, training materials, and video tutorials, empowering our staff, customers, suppliers and other cloud users to build their skills. Our investment in organising and running conferences and meetups further fuels the growth of the UK tech industry, ensuring a skilled and competitive workforce.

Civo has a diverse supply chain, collaborating with partners to not only improve product efficiency but also foster innovation within the broader ecosystem. By championing open standards and supporting open-source software development, we ensure greater interoperability and accessibility for everyone.

The Civo Foundation strengthens our commitment to economic good. Focused on advancing technical skills through education, promoting sustainable technologies, and driving social change, the foundation works directly to bridge the digital divide and create a more prosperous future for all.

Civo hosts Disruptive Tech London, a community of forward-thinking individuals who are passionate about the latest technological developments. Technology has the power to revolutionise the world, and we are committed to exploring new ideas, sharing knowledge, and collaborating with like-minded people.

We will include specific and measurable economic-benefit commitments as part of our G-Cloud contracts for customers that require them. These commitments will be aligned with the scope and scale of each contract and each customer’s priorities. Examples include skills development through pro-bono training, hosting hackathons, code days and immersion days, developing the skills needed to underpin economic growth.

Equal opportunity

At Civo, Equal Opportunities are not just a policy, they're woven into the fabric of our company culture. We believe that fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential is the right thing to do, and essential to our success.

Civo is committed to harnessing the talents of all our employees, regardless of race, colour, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability or any other factor unrelated to merit. We provide a level playing field for advancement, ensuring that opportunities are awarded based on skills and contributions. This commitment extends to recruitment, training, and promotion, creating a workplace where hard work and talent are recognised and rewarded.

We actively cultivate a culture that celebrates differences and encourages diverse perspectives. We understand that a variety of viewpoints lead to better problem-solving and innovation. By embracing these differences, we foster a richer and more dynamic work environment.

Our commitment to equal opportunities extends beyond company walls. The Civo Foundation champions social change initiatives and promotes the advancement of skills through education. We believe that creating a more equitable society benefits everyone, including our employees, communities of interest and our customers.
We will include specific and measurable equal opportunities commitments as part of any G-Cloud contracts for customers that require them. These commitments will be aligned with the scope and scale of each contract and each customer’s priorities. Examples of potential commitments include, through the Civo Foundation, the provision of pro-bono Kubernetes training, access to other technical training resources, and complying with the Voluntary Reporting Framework for disability.

Wellbeing

At Civo, we believe that a happy and healthy team means a thriving and innovative business.

Civo boasts a forward-thinking package designed to support our team's holistic wellbeing. This includes a 4-day work week, uncapped paid holidays, and comprehensive company health insurance that prioritises mental health and well-being. We champion flexible working, with our “remote-first” policy empowering location independence. Additionally, Civo has a generous 5-day volunteer leave policy, allowing employees to contribute to causes they care about.

Empathy and inclusivity are core values at Civo. Our diverse leadership teamreflects this commitment. We foster open communication through regular staff check-ins and an environment where open dialogue about health and wellbeing is encouraged.

Induction goes beyond role-specific skills. We equip our team with comprehensive online training on well-being and navigating the remote work environment. Counsellor services and dedicated well-being support ensure additional resources are readily available when needed.

Recognising the importance of connection in a remote environment, we host a variety of virtual social events, fostering a strong sense of community. Furthermore, optional travel opportunities to Civo events and conferences offer the chance to connect in person and build even stronger team bonds.

By investing in our employees' and customers’ happiness and health, we invest in Civo's long-term success.

We will include specific and measurable additional well-being commitments as part of our G-Cloud contracts for customers that require them. These will align with the scope and scale of each contract and each customer’s priorities.
