Getting started
Access to Claude via Amazon Bedrock is enabled through AWS's standard onboarding path, supplemented by Anthropic's model-specific guidance and dedicated support from our Applied AI and Customer Success teams.

Primary technical documentation is provided by AWS at docs.aws.amazon.com/bedrock/, covering IAM configuration, SDK integration, model enablement, quota management, and region selection for data residency. The AWS Console Model Playground enables interactive prompt testing without code.

Anthropic provides supplementary documentation at docs.anthropic.com covering Claude-specific capabilities including prompt engineering, model parameters, and tool use patterns.

For government customers, Anthropic's Applied AI team provides dedicated advisory support throughout adoption — from requirements gathering and proof-of-concept development through to implementation and ongoing optimisation. Customer Success Managers/Account Execs provide continuity across the engagement. The level of support available depends on the nature of the engagement and should be agreed at call-off.

End-of-contract data extraction
Bedrock is a stateless inference service — prompts and responses are processed in real-time and not retained by the service after processing. There is no persistent customer data held within Bedrock to extract at contract end.
Customer data exists within AWS resources under the customer's control and is accessible via the AWS Console throughout and after any Bedrock engagement. This includes application code, S3 buckets, CloudWatch logs, Knowledge Base document stores, and any downstream outputs. At termination, practical steps are: ceasing API calls to Bedrock endpoints; disabling Claude model access via the Console; and decommissioning integrations as required.
Anthropic's Applied AI or Customer Success teams can provide transition support where agreed at call-off, including guidance on ensuring continuity of workflows built on Claude. Specific transition or migration requirements should be documented in the Order Form at procurement stage.
For account closure and service termination procedures, customers should engage directly with AWS as the service operator, supported by Anthropic where appropriate under the terms of the engagement.
End-of-contract process
The process is straightforward given Bedrock's stateless architecture — there is no customer data held within the service requiring extraction or migration.
Termination steps include: written notice as per agreed terms; a transition planning discussion to agree timeline and any required support; disabling Claude model access within the customer's AWS environment via the Console; decommissioning any integrations, agents, or automated workflows built on Bedrock; and ceasing API calls to Bedrock endpoints.
Customer data — including application code, outputs, logs, and Knowledge Base document stores — remains accessible within the customer's AWS environment via the Console and is unaffected by termination of the Bedrock engagement.
Anthropic's Applied AI or Customer Success teams can provide transition support where agreed at call-off, including guidance on workflow continuity and migration planning. For AWS account closure or broader service termination procedures, customers should engage directly with AWS as the service operator.

AWS publishes Accessibility Conformance Reports for its services via AWS Artifact, referencing WCAG, Section 508, and EN 301 549 standards. Buyers with specific accessibility requirements for the documentation should request the relevant ACR for Amazon Bedrock through AWS Artifact to confirm conformance against their organisation's standards.

The Amazon Bedrock API provides programmatic access to Claude models. Capabilities include: sending prompts and receiving responses; processing multimodal inputs such as text, images, and documents within API requests; caonfiguring inference parameters (temperature, max tokens, top-p); tool use and function calling; batch processing for high-volume workloads; prompt caching to reduce costs on repeated context; service tier selection (Standard or Reserved); and integration with Bedrock Guardrails, knowledge bases, and agents for more complex workflows.
Limitations include: context window size varies by model and cannot be exceeded; regional model availability is not uniform and should be verified for data residency requirements; quota management is per-account, per-region, per-model and subject to capacity availability; access to model weights and direct training is not available; and Reserved tier capacity may not be available for all models.

Description of customisation
Developers can customize several components via the API, such as model selection, system prompts, inference parameters like temperature and max_tokens, and streaming configuration. Deploying via Amazon Bedrock provides a separate set of platform-level capabilities — such as guardrails, knowledge bases, and agents — which are typically configured by operators and then referenced by developers at inference time. The Standard tier service draws from a shared shared capacity pool and requests may be throttled during periods of high demand. AWS's extensive and intelligent traffic management system works to minimise such occurences. For workloads requiring isolation from shared demand, Bedrock's Reserved Tier provides dedicated tokens-per-minute capacity. When reserved capacity is exceeded, overflow routes to the Standard tier to maintain continuity.

Availability and resilience

Guaranteed availability
Amazon Bedrock provides a 99.9% monthly uptime SLA, measured at the regional level. Scheduled maintenance is excluded from this calculation. The SLA is operated and enforced by AWS as the service provider. This applies to Bedrock uptime, not necessarily model availability.

For workloads requiring dedicated throughput capacity, the Reserved Tier targets 99.5% model response uptime. Overflow to the Standard tier when reserved capacity is exceeded ensures continuity of service.

Cross-region inference profiles provide additional resilience by routing requests to regions with available capacity when the source region is under load or quota-constrained.
Approach to resilience

Outage reporting
Outage reporting is provided by AWS. This occurs via multiple channels, all accessible to the customer directly.

The AWS Service Health Dashboard at status.aws.amazon.com provides real-time visibility of service status across all AWS regions, including Bedrock-specific incidents. Customers can configure AWS Health events to trigger notifications via Amazon EventBridge or SNS, integrating with existing ITSM and alerting systems.

CloudWatch alarms can be configured to monitor Bedrock-specific operational metrics — error rates, latency, and request failures — enabling customers to detect degradation proactively rather than relying solely on AWS's status reporting.

CloudTrail provides a complete audit trail of API activity, enabling retrospective analysis of service behaviour during any incident period.

For significant infrastructure-level incidents affecting core AWS services, AWS publishes post-event summaries. These are selectively published based on the scale of impact—not every service disruption results in a formal post-incident report.

Its the customer's responsibility to actively monitor service status and configure appropriate alerting for their workloads. AWS does not proactively contact individual customers during incidents unless they hold Enterprise Support with a designated Technical Account Manager.

Anthropic's Applied AI or Customer Success teams can assist in interpreting incident impacts on Claude-specific workloads where required under the terms of the engagement.

Information security policies and processes
Anthropic maintains a comprehensive information security framework governed by formal policies under the CISO Office. Note that these are Anthropic policies and processes, not those of AWS, and the security policies and processes relevant to Bedrock are a separate matter for AWS.

Key Anthropic policies include: Information Security Policy (AUP), Access Control Policy, Asset Management Policy, Operations Security & Configuration Management Policy, Vulnerability Management Policy, Cryptography Policy, Security Logging & Monitoring Policy, Secure Development Policy, Third-Party Management Policy, Personnel Security Policy, and Security Incident Response Plan. The security function reports to the CISO, with Detection and Response (D&R), Security Engineering, and GRC teams enforcing controls. Protective monitoring approach

    • Creation of employment opportunities particularly for those who face barriers to employment, such as prison leavers, care leavers and/or who are located in deprived areas, and for people in industries with known skills shortages or in high growth sectors
    • Delivery of training schemes and programmes to address any identified skills gaps and under-representation in the workforce for the contract (e.g. prison leavers, care leavers, kinship carers, disabled people)
    • Understanding of the issues affecting the representation of disabled people in the workforce in the market, industry or sector relevant to the contract, and in the supplier’s own organisation and those of its key sub-contractors
    • Collection of the views and expertise of disabled people and their representative organisations on successfully supporting disabled employees or applicants
    • Inclusive and accessible recruitment practices, and retention-focused activities, including those provided in the Guide for line managers on recruiting, managing and developing people with a disability or health condition

    • Inclusive and accessible recruitment practices, development practices and retention policies that support-focused activities including those provided in the Guide for line managers on recruiting, managing and developing which support people with a disability or health condition
    • Actions to invest in the physical and mental health and wellbeing of the contract workforce
