End-of-contract data extraction
ThoughtSpot provides multiple extraction methods when contracts end, ensuring customers retain access to their analytics assets and data.

Metadata and configuration extraction:
Using ThoughtSpot Modelling Language (TML), users can export complete platform configurations including Models, Liveboards, Answers, Views, Tables, Connections, and Spotter AI coaching in YAML or JSON format. TML files are exportable via the web interface (Data > Utilities > Export TML) or REST API v2.0 endpoints (/metadata/tml/export). This preserves all semantic models, visualisation definitions, formulas, joins, and business logic for potential migration to alternative platforms.

Data extraction:
Users can export underlying data through multiple methods: individual visualisation downloads (CSV, Excel, PDF formats), programmatic data retrieval via REST API with configurable row limits (default 100,000 rows, increasable by request), ThoughtSpot Sync for automated Excel delivery, scheduled data alerts triggering automatic exports, and direct queries against connected cloud data warehouses.

Important considerations:
Export capabilities depend on user permissions ("Can download data" privilege required). ThoughtSpot doesn't provide automated grace periods all extraction must occur before contract expiry. Customers retain ownership of their data residing in their own cloud data warehouses; ThoughtSpot only stores metadata and cached query results.
End-of-contract process
Upon contract termination, access to ThoughtSpot Cloud services ceases immediately unless otherwise negotiated. ThoughtSpot does not provide automated grace periods customers must extract all data and metadata (via TML exports or API) before the contract expiry date. According to ThoughtSpot's EULA, upon termination, customers must return or certify destruction of ThoughtSpot Confidential Information, though this doesn't require ThoughtSpot to purge archived backup media. If termination occurs due to ThoughtSpot's material breach, prepaid fees for unused licence periods are refunded within 30 days. For customer breach, remaining amounts become immediately payable.

What's included vs additional costs:

Included in base subscription:
Natural language search, Liveboards, standard support (Essentials/Pro/Enterprise tiers), row-level security, data encryption, basic connectivity to cloud warehouses, and web/mobile access.

Customisation available
Yes
Description of customisation
Yes, ThoughtSpot offers extensive customisation capabilities for both branding and functionality.

What can be customised:
Visual branding through the Style Customisation menu includes application logos (default 140×140px and wide 330×100px formats), background colours for embedded applications and navigation panels, chart colour palettes with primary and secondary colours, footer text with custom messaging, and chart/table visualisation fonts using Web Open Font Format (WOFF) files.

Advanced customisation for embedded deployments includes custom CSS overrides for granular control over buttons, labels, text styles, and typography (requires Embedded Edition licence). Developers can create custom actions triggering callbacks to parent applications, customise system-generated notification links, configure custom domain URLs, and personalise email domain names and welcome messages. The Visual Embed SDK enables white-labelling capabilities with complete branding removal.

Functional customisation includes Liveboard styling and grouping, custom chart creation using ThoughtSpot's Muze Studio, natural language instructions for Spotter AI behaviour, and locale-specific translations.

Who can customise:
Administrators and Developer users access customisation through the Developer portal (Develop > Customizations > Styles). Multi-tenant environments require Primary Org access for cluster-wide style management.

For complete details, visit ThoughtSpot Developers and customisation documentation.

Scaling

Independence of resources
ThoughtSpot guarantees user independence through multi-tenancy Orgs that logically partition instances into isolated tenant environments. Each Org has separate users, groups, and data objects invisible to other tenants.
Resource management strategies include:

-Query queuing fairly manages concurrent query loads
-Cloud auto-scaling dynamically allocates compute resources based on demand
-Query caching stores frequently accessed results reducing warehouse load
-Query prioritisation ensures critical workloads receive resources first
-Throttling mechanisms limit excessive queries from individual users during peaks
-Row-level security controls data access without affecting performance

The platform monitors query latency, concurrent sessions, and resource utilisation, enabling proactive capacity management and fair distribution.

Analytics

Service usage metrics
Yes
Metrics types
ThoughtSpot provides comprehensive usage metrics through the Admin Console's pre-built monitoring Liveboards:

User activity metrics: Active users (daily/weekly/monthly), login frequency, search queries executed, Liveboard and Answer views, data exports, and feature adoption rates across SpotIQ, mobile app, and embedding.

System performance metrics: Query response times, concurrent sessions, data refresh durations, resource utilisation (CPU, memory, storage), platform uptime, and API call volumes.

Content metrics: Most-viewed Liveboards, popular data sources, object creation/modification rates, and sharing activity.

Administrators access these through Admin > Liveboards, create custom monitoring dashboards, configure automated email reports, and export metrics via REST API for external analytics platforms.

Availability and resilience

Guaranteed availability
Guaranteed availability:
ThoughtSpot Cloud runs on major public cloud infrastructures (AWS, Azure, GCP) that each guarantee at least 99.99% monthly uptime. If the platform fails to meet that uptime, customers can receive service credits proportional to the amount of downtime below the guarantee level.

Service Level Agreement (SLA):
• The availability SLA is defined in terms of monthly uptime percentage backed by the underlying cloud provider.
• If uptime falls below the guaranteed level, customers are eligible to claim service credits that offset future subscription fees.
• The credits are calculated based on how much the service was unavailable relative to the SLA.

User refunds:
Instead of direct monetary refunds, ThoughtSpot provides service credits (time or fee credits) applied to future billing if the guaranteed availability isn’t met.

This ensures customers are credited for downtime but does not automatically issue cash refunds.
Approach to resilience
ThoughtSpot Cloud is designed for resilience through cloud-native infrastructure and operational controls. The service is hosted in major public cloud environments (AWS and Google Cloud), with customers selecting their deployment region.

For availability-zone resilience, ThoughtSpot offers a High Availability configuration that spans multiple Availability Zones within a region. This is intended to maintain service continuity with near-zero downtime in the event of an Availability Zone failure, using a multi-node deployment approach.

For data protection and recovery, ThoughtSpot implements automated tenant backup procedures. Backups are taken daily and retained for a defined period, and are stored in regional object storage designed to be available across Availability Zones. In addition to backups, the service takes regular snapshots stored on attached disks to support restoration scenarios.

Operationally, resilience is supported through managed service monitoring, incident response, and controlled maintenance processes. If you require more specific datacentre-level design details (for example, exact topology, failover mechanics, or Recovery Time/Point objectives), these are typically provided on request through the Trust/Security portal process.
Outage reporting
ThoughtSpot reports outages primarily through an in-application Status page that administrators can use to monitor cluster health. The Status page shows the current state of key services (for example authentication, data connections, search, SpotIQ and Spotter) and includes outage notifications, incident reporting, incident updates, and scheduled maintenance information. This capability is typically disabled by default and can be enabled via ThoughtSpot Support.

Public dashboard: No. Outage and maintenance information is surfaced via the admin status experience within the ThoughtSpot environment, rather than a publicly accessible internet dashboard.

API: No. ThoughtSpot does not publish a dedicated public API specifically for outage/status reporting; status is intended to be consumed via the Status page and operational communications.

Email alerts: Yes (for scheduled maintenance). Planned maintenance notifications are sent by email to the designated administrator, and additional recipients can be configured (within stated limits). For unplanned incidents, updates are primarily provided via the Status page, with escalation and communication handled through Support as needed.

Identity and authentication

User authentication needed
Yes
User authentication
  • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
  • Identity federation with existing provider (for example Google Apps)
  • Username or password
Access restrictions in management interfaces and support channels
ThoughtSpot can access to management interfaces is restricted through role-based access control (RBAC) and least-privilege principles. Administrative capabilities (for example user/group management, authentication settings, and application configuration) are limited to named admin roles; elevated access beyond standard role-based access requires request and approval with valid business justification. User and admin activity is captured via security audit logs, supporting oversight and investigation.

Support channels are restricted via authenticated access to the Support Portal and controlled case handling. ThoughtSpot personnel access is tightly controlled under least privilege, supported by background checks and security training. Further detail can be provided on request.

Security governance standards
ISO/IEC 27001
Information security policies and processes
ThoughtSpot follows a formal, documented information security programme aligned to recognised assurance frameworks and certifications, including SOC 1/2/3, ISO/IEC 27001 and CSA STAR. Security is built into day-to-day operations through defined policies and control processes covering secure development (SDLC with security testing), vulnerability management, access control, encryption, incident response, and risk management.

Reporting structure: Information security is led by the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). A defined security governance structure provides executive-level oversight and accountability for security across the organisation.

How policies are enforced: Policies are reviewed and updated regularly to address evolving threats. Compliance is supported through mandatory employee training on joining and quarterly thereafter, role-based access control and least-privilege approvals for elevated access, background checks for security-sensitive roles, and confidentiality obligations. ThoughtSpot also runs a structured risk governance programme with regular security risk assessments and uses independent third-party audits/assessments against its stated standards to validate the design and operating effectiveness of controls.
Software Security Code of Practice
Yes

Operational security

Configuration and change management standard
Complies with a recognised standard, for example CSA CCM v4.0 or SSAE-18 / ISAE 3402
Configuration and change management approach
ThoughtSpot states it follows formal change control for its cloud service: it evaluates platform, application and production infrastructure changes to minimise risk and implements them under a change management standard operating procedure. It also states that vendor security patches are tested before being applied in production, and that code is subject to secure SDLC controls, including static and dynamic testing prior to release.

For lifecycle tracking, ThoughtSpot states it maintains an inventory of software components (including open source) used in ThoughtSpot Cloud. Public material does not describe full end-to-end tracking for all infrastructure components; further detail is available on request.
Vulnerability management type
Complies with a recognised standard, for example CSA CCM v4.0 or SSAE-18 / ISAE 3402
Vulnerability management approach
ThoughtSpot operates a vulnerability management programme that assesses threats and vulnerabilities via security vulnerability evaluations on a schedule determined by the risk level of the information asset, and tracks remediation to industry-leading timeframes. Customer instances are regularly updated to address known vulnerabilities. Where a vendor releases a patch for a disclosed vulnerability, ThoughtSpot obtains the patch, tests it, and then applies it to production within an appropriate timeframe in line with its vulnerability and patch management standard operating procedure.

ThoughtSpot does not publicly share threat-intelligence sources.
Protective monitoring type
Complies with a recognised standard, for example CSA CCM v4.0 or SSAE-18 / ISAE 3402
Protective monitoring approach
ThoughtSpot’s protective monitoring is based on continuous (24/7) security monitoring and alerting, supported by audit and activity logging to detect anomalous or suspicious behaviour and potential service compromise. When a potential compromise is identified, events are triaged and escalated under a defined security incident response plan, with containment and remediation actions coordinated by the security and operations teams. If a customer instance or customer data is impacted, ThoughtSpot states that the customer is notified via the designated contact.
Incident management type
Complies with a recognised standard, for example, CSA CCM v4.0 or ISO/IEC 27035:2011 or SSAE-18 / ISAE 3402
Incident management approach
ThoughtSpot has documented incident management with a defined workflow (including discovery, triage, escalation, notification, remediation, and post-incident review), which covers common event handling through established processes.

How users report incidents: Users can raise incidents by filing a Support case via the Support Portal, and (where enabled) via the in-product “Report an issue” option.

Incident reports: ThoughtSpot provides incident information through Support case updates and, for cloud instances, an admin Status page that shows incident reporting and updates. ThoughtSpot does not publicly detail a standardised “incident report template” beyond these channels.
