Our web chat option is underpinned by Cisco Webex Web App Messaging functionality. Cisco partners with Applause, a global digital quality provider, to conduct crowd-sourced accessibility testing with real assistive technology users. This testing specifically includes people with disabilities (PWD) in the design, testing and user experience research process.
Testing methodology includes:
• Diverse testers recruited with permanent disabilities including blindness, deafness, mobility and cognitive differences, as well as temporary disabilities and degenerative conditions
• Real-world testing environments using numerous devices, operating systems and platform configurations reflecting Cisco's global user base
• Technical testing conducted on Windows 11 with Freedom Scientific's JAWS 2024 screen reader, keyboard-only navigation, and Microsoft accessibility options (filter keys, high contrast settings)
• Ongoing conformance assessments against WCAG and FCC standards across eight Webex products to date
Results:
The partnership has achieved consistent WCAG and FCC conformance, tripled the number of Cisco Accessibility Champions, increased developer velocity, and reduced over 1,000 bugs requiring remediation. However, the VPAT documentation confirms some limitations remain-particularly around screen reader announcements for status messages and element labels in messaging functions.
This independent, community-based approach ensures testing reflects authentic assistive technology user experiences rather than internal compliance-only testing. - Onsite support
