Service constraints
Splunk Cloud is a single-tenant environment, but the underlying infrastructure is multi-tenant cloud IaaS. Customers are responsible for managing their daily ingest volume based on their license agreement. While Splunk provides a 100% uptime SLA, the service cannot be modified on a per-customer basis. Customers must manage their IP Allow List for access.

No
Designed for use on mobile devices
Yes
Differences between the mobile and desktop service
The core analysis and administrative work are performed on the desktop web interface. Splunk provides dedicated mobile apps (iOS/Android) primarily for viewing dashboards, receiving alerts, and responding to incidents (via Splunk On-Call/Incident Management). The mobile app does not typically support complex query creation using the Splunk Search Processing Language (SPL).
Service interface
Yes
User support accessibility
None or don’t know
Description of service interface
The primary service interface is the Splunk Web Console, which includes the Search App, Dashboards, and administrative tools (Cloud Monitoring Console). It provides end-to-end functionality for searching, reporting, and managing the platform. It is a persistent interface and is fully included with all active Splunk Cloud subscriptions.
Accessibility standards
None or don’t know
Description of accessibility
Splunk provides a browser-based interface designed for high technical usability. It supports browser-based accessibility features and standard keyboard navigation. Users can perform all data ingestion, search, analysis, and reporting functions. Formal compliance to specific standards is not publicly detailed, but Splunk aims for high usability for technical users.
Accessibility testing
Specific, formal interface testing with users of assistive technology is not publicly documented. Our development lifecycle includes internal checks and automated analysis to ensure usability and adherence to modern web standards, which benefits assistive technology users. For UK public sector buyers requiring verifiable evidence of testing (e.g., with screen readers or alternative input devices), this information and detailed Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPAT) can be requested and provided under a contractually binding agreement.
API
Yes
What users can and can't do using the API
The REST API is fully featured: users can ingest data, run searches, create indexes, manage configuration, and automate alerting. Changes like modifying retention policies and user roles are fully supported. The API is restricted from core administrative functions such as billing management, SLA modifications, and underlying cloud infrastructure access.

Customisation available
Yes
Description of customisation
What can be customised includes: index retention policies (per index/data type), user authentication (SAML/LDAP integration), access controls (Role-Based Access Control/RBAC for data/dashboards), and data ingestion/processing (Field Extraction Rules, schema management). How users can customise is primarily via the Splunk Web Console (UI) for configuration, or programmatically using the REST API for automation and configuration management. Who can customise is limited to users with the Splunk Admin or sc_admin roles, or roles with specific write privileges.

Scaling

Independence of resources
Splunk Cloud is provisioned as a single-tenant environment (a "stack") for each customer, isolating it from others. Resources (CPU, memory, storage) are sized specifically for the customer's ingested volume and workload capacity. This dedicated provisioning and logical isolation prevent any "noisy neighbor" effects from impacting service performance.

Availability and resilience

Guaranteed availability
Splunk provides a 100% uptime SLA for its core Splunk Cloud Platform service, reflecting its mission-critical nature. Service credits are provided as the remedy in the event of validated SLA failures, calculated based on the lost service time, as detailed in the Splunk Cloud Service Level Schedule. This SLA cannot be modified on a per-customer basis, ensuring uniform commitment.
Approach to resilience
Splunk Cloud is deployed with high availability and resilience built into its core architecture. Data is replicated across a cluster of Indexers running in multiple Availability Zones (AZs) within the selected region. This deployment ensures automatic failover with no data loss in case of a single AZ failure. Data is backed up continuously, and Splunk maintains a dedicated Disaster Recovery solution.
Outage reporting
Outages and service incidents are reported via a public, real-time status page (dashboard). Users can subscribe to email alerts for proactive notification of incidents and subsequent resolution updates. API status endpoints are available for programmatic checks. Splunk provides a Cloud Monitoring Console (CMC) for administrators to monitor the health of their dedicated Splunk Cloud environment.
