End-of-contract data extraction
At the end of a contract, or at any point during the service term, users can extract their data through a variety of self-serve tools built directly into the interface. This empowers staff to work independently and efficiently, ensuring all information remains portable without the need for complicated support processes.

All transport network data, including routes, patterns, and timetables, can be exported in common industry-standard formats such as GTFS and TransXchange. Geographical and infrastructure data can be extracted as GeoJSON, KML, or Shapefiles, ensuring seamless interoperability with other GIS software or an existing ArcGIS server. Analytical outputs from our isochrone tools and demographic impact queries are available for download as CSV or Excel files.

Because Podaris is designed to be a fully transparent and independent platform, we ensure there is no vendor lock-in. Our commitment to open data standards means that all project information remains accessible. Should a customer require a bulk extraction of all historical project data, the Podaris support team is available to facilitate this as part of our standard off-boarding procedure.
End-of-contract process
Upon contract termination, Podaris ensures that customers maintain full ownership of their data. All project information and datasets are archived for a period of 90 days before permanent destruction, unless the customer requests earlier deletion. During this 90-day off-boarding window, or at any point during the contract term, users can extract their data through self-serve tools at no additional cost. Data is delivered digitally in raw or industry-standard formats such as GTFS, TransXChange, Shapefiles, and CSV, ensuring interoperability with other GIS software or network design tools.

After the 90-day archive period, all customer data is destroyed using industry-standard cryptographic erasure to ensure it is unrecoverable. To support a smooth transition to a new system, the Podaris support team and the designated account manager remain available to facilitate bulk data extraction. We also offer to set up custom HTTP redirects for specific URLs, such as those used for public engagement, to minimise disruption to ongoing projects.

What users can and can't do using the API
The Podaris API allows for programmatic integration with third-party tools, enabling the platform to function as a hub for transport planning data. Users can automate the import and export of transport networks and GIS datasets, including GTFS and TransXchange files. Our RESTful JSON endpoints support bi-directional connectivity, allowing modifications made in external applications, such as QGIS or spreadsheets, to propagate in real-time to all collaborators. Setting up the service through the API is managed via unique Bearer tokens generated in the user account settings. This allows for the automated connection of externally hosted data sources, such as ArcGIS servers, ensuring teams work with canonical datasets. However, the API is not designed for high-frequency transactional data or live vehicle dispatch. Crucially, Podaris is a strategic planning platform and is not intended for use as a public-facing journey planner.

Approach to resilience
Podaris is engineered as a robust, resilient, and reliable platform following industry-standard guidelines such as the twelve-factor app. The service is built as a cloud-native application deployed as containerised applications atop a large, resilient Kubernetes cluster. Deployments are single-tenant instances where customer data and compute resources are isolated and scale independently to prevent issues with "noisy neighbours" competing for resources. All services and resources scale dynamically and automatically depending on load, accessed through cloud-based load balancers.

Our datacentre setup is hosted within Google Cloud Platform, a highly available public cloud. Deployments span multiple availability zones to prevent geographic disruption, with instances deployed across regions to further increase resilience. Datastores are automatically replicated to other zones in the region, and primary databases have multiple replicas kept in-sync. Database backups are performed in real-time through read-only replicas and periodically at 24-hour intervals, ensuring a Recovery Point Objective (RPO) of near zero. Recovery Time Objective (RTO) is rapid as database replicas are hot-swappable. The platform is managed 24/7 by on-call staff with access to centralised logging for instant incident reaction.
