API
Yes
What users can and can't do using the API
"EDB Postgres AI Hybrid Manager APIs allows users to automate, provision, and manage their Postgres clusters across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

What Users Can Do:

1. Deploying, creating, viewing, and managing EDB Postgres clusters (including High Availability/Disaster Recovery configuration).
2. Automating deployment, configuration, and data operations, often via the included Command Line Interface.
3. Initiating and monitoring schema and data migrations from external databases (like Oracle or self-managed Postgres) into HM clusters.
4. Managing backup schedules, restore points, and disaster recovery configurations.
5. Integrating with Identity Providers, defining Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) for projects and clusters, and managing secure access.

What Users Can't Do:

1. Users cannot create custom roles; only a set of predefined roles are available for RBAC.
2. Native User Creation (Console/API): While native users can be configured, they generally cannot be created directly through the Hybrid Manager console or API for human users; this often requires manual configuration file tweaking."

Customisation available
Yes
Description of customisation
You can enable additional features for Hybrid Manager by customizing your installations.
- Database cluster configuration parameters (GUC's), cluster templates, and cluster settings (e.g., high availability, backup configuration).
- Configure your own identity provider (IDP) for user management.
- Set up Key Management Store (KMS) for use with Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).
- Enable custom certificates, issuers, or certificate authorities
- Enable GenAI Builder to build AI agents.
- Enable catalogs to manage data in a single table for analytics workloads.
- Customize Migration Portal secrets for secure communication between internal components.

How to customize:
-Console GUI: Most day-to-day customization (e.g., editing clusters, managing users, setting notifications) is done through the intuitive Hybrid Manager Console.
-Configuration Files/Scripts: For platform-level changes, such as enabling TDE, configuring IdPs, or customizing installation secrets, administrators use command-line tools like kubectl to modify Custom Resources (CRs) or reapply Helm charts.

Who can customize:
-Users with specific predefined roles: Roles like Project Owner and Project Editor can create, edit, and delete clusters within their projects.
-Organization Owner/Administrator roles can perform organization-level tasks like managing user roles and viewing usage reports.
-Platform Administrator roles are responsible for managing the underlying Kubernetes platform components and enabling feature customizations"

Scaling

Independence of resources
"EDB Postgres AI Hybrid Manager guarantees users aren't affected by the demands of other users (i.e. """"Noisy Neighbors"""") by leveraging Kubernetes-native resource isolation and dedicated Postgres configurations.

1. HM runs each EDB Postgres cluster as a dedicated set of containers on a Kubernetes platform (like OpenShift, EKS, or GKE) which provides strict Quality of Service guarantees.

2. Dedicated Cluster Deployment: Unlike a shared-schema/multi-tenant environment, Hybrid Manager deploys separate, dedicated Postgres clusters for different tenants or applications.

3. Proactive Monitoring and Tuning: Hybrid Manager includes a unified observability stack (Prometheus and Grafana) that monitors over 200 deep database and infrastructure metrics"

"EDB does not supply physical access control hardware or facility management solutions. Compliance with CSA CCM physical access requirements depends on the hosting provider or customer’s data center practices.

EDB uses Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) to secure data-at-rest by encrypting Postgres data, WAL, and temporary files on disk.

TDE uses AES block-level encryption, making data unreadable to unauthorized system users who access the files directly. The database manages all encryption/decryption, requiring no changes to application code and supporting external key management systems (KMS)."

Data importing and exporting

Data export approach
"Users can export data from EDB Postgres AI using standard PostgreSQL utilities, cloud-native tools, and analytical connectors. The pg_dump utility generates SQL scripts or compressed binary files for full schema migrations. For tabular data, the COPY command exports directly to CSV, JSON, or TXT.

Through the Analytics Accelerator, users can export massive datasets into open columnar formats like Apache Parquet, Iceberg, or Delta Lake directly to cloud object storage (S3/GCS). Additionally, the Gen AI Builder allows for the extraction of processed metadata and vector embeddings for use in external AI workflows."

Availability and resilience

Guaranteed availability
EDB delivers the confidence of up to 99.999% high availability with mission critical capabilities. EDB will operate Technical Support Services, in all material respects, consistent with its information security program, which includes technical, organizational, and administrative safeguards regarding the availability of technical leads to support client environments, as well as the availability of the client portal that is utilized to facilitate support services, client communication, and task tracking.
Approach to resilience
This will be deployed in the datacentre of your choice, private, public or hybrid.
Outage reporting
"EDB Hybrid Manager reports outages and potential service disruptions through a robust, integrated Alerting and Notification System. This system is integral to the Hybrid Manager's unified observability stack and provides both in-app and external communication channels

User Notifications are targeted at designated users who have enabled the notifications. The notification channels include:

1 - In-app Inbox: Alerts are visible directly within the Hybrid Manager console under the bell icon.

2 - Email: Notifications are sent to the user's registered email address.

Hybrid Manager also has System Notifications designed for broader operational teams and automated handling. These include:

1 - Email Group: Notifications can be sent to a shared mail group for team awareness.

2 - Webhook: Allows integration with custom scripts or internal notification systems by sending HTTP POST or PUT requests containing the alert details (JSON payload) to a specified URL.

3 - PagerDuty: Direct integration enables automated incident creation and escalation within the PagerDuty platform."

-Organisation: The top level, representing the entire customer's deployment, administering Users and managing top-level settings
- Project: A logical grouping of related resources (clusters, migrations, analytics, etc). Access to resources is granted at the project level.
- User: Individual users with specific roles & permissions for a given scope (project or organization)

The EDB Support Portal requires authenticated login (for licensed customers and Named Contacts), limiting the creation and viewing of support cases and documentation to authorised personnel.
