- Support levels
- Buyers are assigned a dedicated Partnership lead with experience of delivering community fundraising programmes for a variety of local government and public sector organisations across the UK and Ireland. The Partnership lead is the buyer's point of contact at Spacehive and guides the strategic direction of the fundraising programme. The Partnership lead will hold regular calls with a nominated buyer lead to monitor the delivery of the strategy and activation programme, report on the progress of local projects in crowdfunding, identify strategic opportunities and handle any buyer requests or queries. Buyers will also have access to other specialist Spacehive teams, including Community Project Management, Technology and Marketing.
- Support available to third parties

Onboarding and offboarding
- Getting started
- Your Partnership lead will host a series of tailored kick-off sessions with key buyer personnel to develop and agree on the programme strategy and plan, including: the vision, aims and objectives of the community fundraising programme; the framework for assessing local projects for funding; the branding and profile of the programme and programme page; the timing of the activation programme; and a communications and engagement plan to involve key stakeholders in the programme. Your Partnership lead will then involve the wider Spacehive team to begin the activation programme to bring forward projects for crowdfunding.

- End-of-contract process
- At the end of a contract, should the buyer decide not to continue with Spacehive, their account will be shut down. The buyer will lose access to all community fundraising tools and the branded programme page will be taken down. All data from the community fundraising programme will continue to be accessible in the timeframe specified in GDPR and on request, we can share data with the buyer in CSV or PDF format. At this point the buyer will become the acting data controller for this information and must manage it in line with GDPR regulations. Crowdfunding projects funded by buyers will remain visible on the Spacehive site beyond the end of a contract.

We limit access to to our critical IT systems to employees designated by the Security Officer only, who are directly accountable to the Security Officer.
- Information security policies and processes
- Spacehive staff are only granted the minimum level of access to perform their job, as deemed by a Company Director and Security Officer. Operational security
- Configuration and change management standard
- Supplier-defined controls
- Configuration and change management approach
- All changes to our software are developed in a test environment where quality assurance is carried out for functional and security purposes. Once the QA has been passed all deployments are made through a source control. The source control logs the changes in code and which employee made the code change and carried out the QA. Changes to our server configuration are also logged within our third party server configuration and at all times comply with security standards.
- Vulnerability management type
- Supplier-defined controls
- Vulnerability management approach
- Logs of Spacehive server load and platform usage are recorded and stored for up to 30 days. Any unusual activity on either flags an issue to the tech team. They assess the potential risk and where necessary quickly apply a patch. All changes are developed in the latest supported libraries and code bases and libraries regularly updated.
- Protective monitoring type
- Supplier-defined controls
- Protective monitoring approach
- Spacehive uses a login system that tracks suspicious activity and calls on our APIs. Any suspect behaviour or attacks will be immediately flagged to our tech team. Appropriate action will be taken, for example suspension of the suspect account pending an investigation. In the event of equipment loss, the threat would be assessed by our Head of Development or CEO and appropriate action taken. No data relating to the product is stored locally and any financial information (eg Credit Card information) is handled by our PCI compliant payment partner, Stripe, rather than by Spacehive.
- Incident management type
- Supplier-defined controls
- Incident management approach
- Spacehive has an automated warnings setup for system errors or outages. End users can also report incidents directly to Spacehive via the support@spacehive.com inbox, which is monitored by our project success and tech teams. If an issue is reported, our escalation policy would kick in and it would be first investigated by our support team. If the issue is identified as commonly occurring or carries a high level of impact on the end user they will report it to our tech team for resolution. Incident reports can be provided upon request by the end user.

Fighting climate change
Spacehive’s community crowdfunding programmes produce a wide range of local initiatives but significantly, an increasing number of projects have positive environmental impact and sustainability at their heart. Spacehive actively supports local groups who are looking to fund the journey to net zero or implement sustainable practices in what they deliver as an organisation. We do this by providing expertise on the viability of projects through our built-in project verification process and advice on how to present sustainable projects in a way that will resonate with local people and motivate them to support the idea. This could be by linking initiatives about reducing waste, preserving water or preventing greenhouse gas emissions to pride of communities in local places and spaces. As a result of projects funded on the Spacehive platform:
82,000m2 of green space has been improved; 27,000kg of materials have been recycled; 23,000 volunteer hours have been spent on delivering projects.Covid-19 recovery
During the early stages of the pandemic, Spacehive took a number of steps to respond and make it easier for people to support their local communities. This included waiving fees for projects created in lockdown; relaxing our criteria so organisations could raise for a wider range of projects, and making it easy for organisations to set up urgent flexible funds. As the focus has shifted over to recovery we have supported local people across the country to fund projects that help communities to continue to recover from the effects of Covid-19, such as initiatives countering social isolation and tackling inactivity and projects that revitalise local places and spaces.Tackling economic inequality
Spacehive’s mission is to make it easier for people to improve their local area. Achieving this mission requires Spacehive to equip and upskill project creators with crowdfunding tools and know-how in order to turn their ideas into reality. This includes ensuring that people from the most deprived areas of the UK get any additional support they need to access crowdfunding. We are proud that most projects on Spacehive come from more deprived areas. In fact, because people experiencing socio-economic disadvantage or discrimination are often in tune with the real issues local people are facing, the ideas they put forward often resonate most with backers to crowdfunding campaigns. Spacehive has an excellent track record of supporting a diverse range of project creators to come forward and fund their ideas on the platform. In all areas that we work we provide advice to ensure those affected by economic inequality can access the platform. This might be through provide additional support, running workshops in areas that are affected by socio-economic disadvantage or championing project creators from those areas to act as peer champions. The latest research from innovation charity Nesta found that from the 130 Spacehive projects surveyed, 7,000 volunteers participated in the projects, with 74% of those projects receiving offers of help or voluntary work. After running a crowdfunding campaign on Spacehive, 86% of project creators said that this process significantly improved the skills of members of the team, and a quarter of the projects had the primary aim of supporting unemployed people while over half the projects provided training and skills development opportunities.Equal opportunity
Our programmes help build the capacity of people to manage and deliver impactful local community projects. These amazing, locally led projects deliver a number of benefits: providing volunteering, educational, skills and employment opportunities; helping local places to become carbon neutral and tackling the climate emergency; boosting local economic prosperity; improving the health and wellbeing of local people; and creating greater community cohesion and inclusion. Spacehive is committed to supporting disabled people and people with long-term health conditions to access crowdfunding and feel the benefits of crowdfunding.Wellbeing
Spacehive's purpose is to invigorate local places to make them happier, prouder and more prosperous. The result of creating invigorated local places is improved wellbeing for the communities that live, work and play in them. Spacehive projects enhance green spaces, provide sporting and exercise activities, improve accessibility, encourage healthy food and lifestyle choices, which consistently have positive effects on the community's physical and mental health. In addition to the impact of the projects themselves, we build the capacity of many individuals and enable them to run brilliant fundraising campaigns. The campaigns encourage people to make new connections, linking them to their community more strongly and giving people a sense of being able to change the world around them. All these factors are linked closely to people’s wellbeing. Across our public sector partner network, we work with Council public health teams, NHS Trusts and Integrated Care Boards to tackle wider wellbeing issues and encourage projects that achieve community health objectives.
