Fighting climate change

Oliver Wyman, a Marsh McLennan businesses, hasbeen annually certified as a CarbonNeutral® company since 2020. In 2022, Marsh McLennan announced its commitment to set and execute low-carbon transition strategies that chart a path to net-zero across its operations by 2050 and reduce its emissions by 50 percent by 2030. In addition, The Oliver Wyman Forum’s Climate & Sustainability initiative is helping address the challenge of how business, government, and individual can combine to significantly lower emissions. Our Climate & Sustainability Platform, as well as insights from the Oliver Wyman Forum’s Climate & Sustainability initiative, have been developed to respond to the needs of clients and the public sector as the world transitions to a net-zero future.

We strive to deepen our commitment to the environment through additional actions such as the integration of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in carbon offset portfolio management and social impact work, our endorsement of the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, our investment in the Green Champions of Oliver Wyman Reforestation Program (GROWTrees), and our long-term strategy to integrate sustainability into our operations and the way we work, in support of our net-zero commitment.

Oliver Wyman collaborates with multiple organizations on the topic of Climate & Sustainability, including the World Economic Forum, UNEP-FI, S&P Global, WWF (World Wildlife Fund), CDP (formerly Carbon Disclosure Project), The Climate Group, and many more that are specific to individual industries. Oliver Wyman has been working with the TCFD (Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) and a coalition of global banks for many years, helping to define how the TCFD’s recommendations are implemented in financial services. Oliver Wyman also serves as Knowledge Partner to the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ).

Covid-19 recovery

Oliver Wyman is committed to creating new businesses, new jobs and new skills throughout our work, especially in deprived areas and sectors that are high growth and/or have skills shortages. This is more important than ever in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic which has driven significant shifts in the economic outlook and labour market in the UK. In this engagement we commit to influencing staff, suppliers, customers and communities in support of this policy outcome. OW will consistently seek opportunities to deliver against these commitments in the way we work, how we collaborate with CH and other organisations, and the outputs of our work. We are mindful that this project will have significant real-world policy impact; as such, this final point is key.

Throughout the pandemic, OW has committed to supporting businesses, more specifically through the publication of the ‘Pandemic Navigator’, which provides greater visibility into COVID-19 hotspots and changing patterns. Furthermore, OW is committed to supporting the societies and communities we operate within, especially in helping manage and recover from the impacts of COVID-19. During the challenging times of COVID-19, we continued to support our partner charities virtually, through fundraising events, virtual workshops, mentoring and skills sessions.

Tackling economic inequality

We are firmly committed to creating opportunities for entrepreneurship and to help new organisations to grow, supporting economic growth and business creation. Through our direct supply chain, we are governed by MMC supply chain policies which support access for small and/or newer businesses. Where required in the delivery of the contract we will seek to create opportunities through working with suppliers and/or partners that are entrepreneurial and/or new, small businesses. OW is also very mindful of the potential impacts of our work with potential buyers on this framework on businesses. As such, as we design deliverables we will ensure that they also aim to create and, crucially, avoid blocking, opportunities for entrepreneurship and for new initiatives to grow.

OW is committed to supporting employment and skills opportunities for staff, suppliers, customers and communities; to facilitating the development of businesses; and to a fair and responsible approach to supplier management. OW will consistently seek opportunities to deliver against these commitments in the way we work, how we collaborate with potential buyers on this framework and other organisations, and the outputs of our work.

Equal opportunity

Oliver Wyman aims to create an environment where everyone, including those with disabilities, has the opportunity to excel. We pursue this through targeted policies, easily accessible resources/ tools and an inclusive culture. Visibly championing this support improves representation.

Policies and protections. OW UK has an Equal Opportunity policy that applies to all terms and conditions of employment, for example hiring, benefits, and training. There is protection for all staff, regardless of disability status, and inclusive recruiting policies. OW UK will make reasonable adjustments to support people with disabilities and are level 1 accredited for the Disability Confident employer scheme. OW recognises cognitive diversity, with neurodiverse staff represented in multiple teams. We are also at the start of a multi-year partnership with Ambitious with Autism to not only support the charity via fundraising and social impact work but also to partner with them on our journey to becoming a more neurodiverse confident employer. OW is about to launch a new disability and neurodiversity action plan.

Wellbeing

Oliver Wyman is committed to supporting colleagues’ and other stakeholders’ mental and physical wellbeing, as well as influencing others to achieve this goal. It is vital that all colleagues feel: (i) SAFE bringing their whole selves to work; (ii) SUPPORTED by a culture where mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing are valued; (iii) EQUIPPED to openly discuss topics of mental health, mental illness, and wellbeing, and look out for each other; (iv) EMPOWERED to be vocal about their needs and to drive improvements that support the wellbeing of themselves and their colleagues and (v) COMFORTABLE accessing available help as early as possible, as well as confident that the resources and the support they need are never more than one click/call/conversation away.

More generally, OW strives to support the mental and physical health of its staff and ensure that challenges in colleagues’ mental or physical health are not an impediment to their success. Dedicated ‘Talent Managers’ facilitate accommodations such as flexible working options and enhanced infrastructure and OW engages independent occupational health referrals to ensure holistic adjustments are facilitated for staff with disabilities.

Oliver Wyman will monitor, measure and report on our commitment to the health and wellbeing of staff, suppliers, customers and communities through delivery of any contracts awarded through this framework.
