Fighting climate change
Finyx produce an annual Carbon Reduction Plan which documents our commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. This involves reducing carbon emissions by 22.7% over the next 5 years. To achieve this, we have an Emission Reduction Initiative and document the monitoring and tracking our direct and indirect emissions. Other initiatives include use of cloud computing solutions to take advantage of low carbon hosting, improving the energy efficiency of our offices and increasing support for remote working to minimise travel.
Our annual employee survey is used to calculate commuting emissions across Finyx. We are also using our employee survey to promote visibility of our CO2 reduction approach, and to provide a further channel for our employees to engage on our green initiatives. Used new data and metrics to assess emissions more accurately for 2023 onwards.
Additionally, we have a sustainability policy which is updated annually and implemented across all our offices. We will deliver all work for the Authority in line with these policies, and always look for further ways to reduce our environmental impact. Our team has attended sustainability courses (including Business Sustainability Management at the Cambridge Institute of Sustainable Leadership). We also raise awareness of the environmental impacts by delivering internal training and awareness sessions on sustainable alternatives to materials, food types and sources, and investment.
Our flexible-working policy supports employees to effectively work from home and minimise travel unless necessary. This includes supporting clients in facilitation of remote workshops or using closest office for in purpose workshop. In order to minimise the climate impact of required travel to client site, we seek to resource our project teams locally wherever possible.Tackling economic inequality
We seek to create employment and training opportunities, particularly for those who face barriers to employment. This includes an internship programme based in York, and we try to engage our interns on client work where possible to support their development. Additionally, we run an apprenticeship scheme. As of April 2024, we have one apprentice studying Finance and Accounting, and one studying Information Technology. We are also looking to launch a T-Level industry placement programme in the future, and we will explore opportunities with clients through this framework.
We also seek to create training opportunities for those who face to barriers to employment, such as though our partnership with York Community Consulting, a local student-led pro-bono consulting group dedicated to positive social impact. Finyx have successfully delivered training workshops on Agile methodology and project management best practice, as well as employability and CV workshops to these students. For our other Charity Partners, we have also provided CV writing and LinkedIn profile guides and dedicated workshops on M365 best practices. We are committed to continuing to offer similar workshops and support in the future.
All employees at Finyx are allocated a coach and mentor to support their professional and personal development and are provided with an annual allowance to spend on training to support this. In this way, we prioritise upskilling our own employees by facilitating the attainment of relevant qualifications. This is also supplemented by dedicated knowledge sharing and training sessions to support our project teams.
We sometimes utilise a network of independent contractors to support our project teams. Despite having a limited supply chain as an SME, we are committed to maintaining ethical practices in all business engagements. Therefore, we ensure that all projects and business operations follow the same standards, consisting of decent and fair work.Equal opportunity
Our Inclusivity, Diversity and Equality Board aim to keep us accountable to a culture that attracts, develops, and retains exceptional people across diverse groups. As part of this, our Equality and Diversity policy has been developed to ensure that all individuals are valued for their contributions regardless of factors such as background, gender, disability etc.
We are committed to ensuring that all requests for reasonable adjustments are facilitated. We also gather feedback through an annual staff survey, which includes questions regarding accommodations for those with disabilities. We also seek to cultivate a welcoming environment by engaging our entire workforce in “Lunch and Learn” sessions on topics such as neurodiversity.
We commit to equal pay to all comparable job roles regardless of entry route and background, and so we conduct an annual equality pay gap review. All our recruitment activities have also been carefully designed to eliminate where possible any opportunity for discrimination and we adopted a targeted recruitment strategy to remediate current gaps within the workforce. For example, by 2026, we set the target of having 40% of management positions filled by women. Since 2023, we have supported these efforts by sponsoring annual Women in Tech events dedicated to how we can all support the career progression and development of women within our workforce. We had both our employees and our clients in attendance, and we are committed to continuing our sponsorship of similar events in the future.
Additionally, Finyx are committed to ensuring that modern slavery is not taking place within our organisation or supply chain. To implement fair work practices, we have an extensive set of policies which are aligned to our organisational values and legal requirements. These are reviewed on an annual basis and acknowledged by each employee through our Policy Attestation Portal.Wellbeing
Finyx have a range of internal initiatives dedicated to supporting employee health and wellbeing, including a scheme for “Mental Health Champions”. They aim to provide a confidential support service for colleagues, reduce the stigma around discussing mental health, and drive the mental health and wellbeing agenda at Finyx. In these ways, they are always available to provide support to support across the organisation to support our employees to remain in and thrive at work.
We provide comprehensive employee benefits to support the health and wellbeing of the contracted workforce. This includes free private healthcare and the YuLIFE app which features 24/7 access to medical and mental health support.
All employees are allocated a coach and mentor to support their professional and personal development. Additionally, our flexible-working policy supports employees to maintain a healthy work life balance. This is well received and understood by our employees, as demonstrated by our 2023 staff survey indicating that 83% of our employees feel supported to work flexibly.
As part of our commitment to corporate social responsibility, we also take measures to support our local communities as well. We allocate a minimum of two days per annum to each employee to volunteer for our chosen Charity Partners. One of our primary Charity Partners is London-based charity called Momentum Children's Charity that helps families of seriously ill children to keep moving forwards, providing support from hospital to home and beyond. The key activities undertaken as part of these engagements may include fundraising, consultancy support and provision of training. We work collaboratively with our Charity Partners to determine where we can add the most value to their organisation and the community. We also allow employees time to perform critical community roles, including Justices of the Peace or charity Trustees.
