Onboarding and offboarding

Getting started
We help users start using the Edge Cloud Deployment service through a structured onboarding process that combines technical discovery, guided deployment, and hands-on support. We begin by assessing the buyer’s operational requirements and deployment constraints (e.g., site conditions, connectivity, security policies, and performance objectives), then tailor the edge deployment approach using approved templates and baseline configurations. We provide clear onboarding documentation, access setup, and assisted commissioning of initial sites and workloads, supported by an initial settling-in period to validate performance and usability in real conditions. Throughout this phase we make any necessary adjustments and ensure users are confident operating the service through the web interface and/or API, with ongoing support available as the deployment scales.

End-of-contract data extraction
When the contract ends, users can extract their data through a structured offboarding process designed to ensure completeness, integrity, and security. We provide access to export tools and documented procedures via the service portal (and API where applicable) to retrieve customer-owned data, including configuration state, workload artefacts, logs (within retention), and operational telemetry. Data can be exported in standard, portable formats and delivered via secure download or transfer to an agreed customer-controlled destination (e.g., encrypted object storage, customer-managed infrastructure, or removable encrypted media where required). We support verification of export completeness and, once confirmed, securely decommission the service and delete residual data in accordance with contractual terms, security policy, and auditable destruction procedures.
End-of-contract process
At the end of the contract, the client is formally notified of the upcoming expiry to allow sufficient time to confirm renewal or initiate termination. If the service is ending, we follow a structured offboarding process that includes support for securely extracting customer-owned data (e.g., configurations, logs within retention, workload artefacts, and operational telemetry) using documented export tools and assistance where required. Data can be provided in standard, portable formats, with any bespoke reformatting, additional engineering effort, or specialist migration support treated as a chargeable add-on.

The service is then decommissioned in a controlled manner in line with agreed timelines to minimise operational risk, and we provide guidance to support transition to an alternative platform or internal capability if needed. All financial matters are settled according to contract terms, including final billing and any agreed credits or refunds. Once data extraction is confirmed, remaining customer data is securely deleted in accordance with security policy and auditable disposal procedures. Clients are also invited to provide feedback to support continuous improvement of the service and contract experience.

1) Users can onboard Edge Cloud Deployment through the web portal by creating or joining a tenant, registering edge sites and hardware, applying approved deployment templates, and configuring connectivity to the core environment. The portal supports guided setup for cluster formation, baseline security configuration, and initial workload deployment, providing clear status and validation steps to confirm successful commissioning.

2) After onboarding, users can manage edge sites through the portal by deploying and updating workloads, scaling services, configuring permitted networking and ingress/egress policies, rotating credentials, and managing access controls via RBAC. Users can also monitor system health, view logs and deployment history, and initiate supported lifecycle actions such as patching, restarts, and controlled rollbacks.

3) User actions are governed by role-based permissions and platform guard rails to maintain security and operational stability, meaning some platform-level changes (e.g., core infrastructure configuration, firmware baselines, or major topology changes) require managed support. Planned maintenance and updates may cause short periods of reduced availability, with advance notice provided. Certain capabilities may also be constrained by hardware availability, site power/network conditions, and compliance requirements, with audit logging and retention policies applied as standard.

1) Users can provision Edge Cloud Deployment via API by creating or joining a tenant, registering edge sites and hardware, applying approved deployment templates, and configuring secure connectivity to the core environment. The API supports automated commissioning of nodes, cluster formation, baseline security configuration, and initial workload deployment, enabling repeatable setup through CI/CD or infrastructure-as-code tooling.

2) After setup, users can manage edge environments programmatically by deploying, updating, and rolling back workloads, adjusting permitted networking policies, rotating credentials, and managing users and roles through RBAC controls. Availability and resilience

Guaranteed availability
We guarantee availability for the managed service and control plane (including management access, monitoring, update services, and configuration systems) in line with the agreed SLA, with clear response and restoration targets for service-impacting incidents. For the edge compute layer, availability is inherently dependent on conditions outside the provider’s direct control—such as site power, connectivity, physical environment, and hardware handling—so we cannot guarantee uninterrupted operation where failures are caused by customer-managed deployment conditions or physical hardware incidents.

That said, the service is designed to maximise operational continuity through resilient architectures, automated recovery and rebuild workflows, configuration/state protection, and rapid replacement or re-provisioning procedures using known-good baselines. Where higher availability is required, we support optional designs such as redundant nodes, multi-site failover, and spare hardware pools, enabling buyers to achieve stronger availability outcomes appropriate to the mission context.
Approach to resilience
The Edge Cloud Deployment service is designed for resilience by combining robust platform engineering with operational safeguards suited to challenging and disconnected environments. The management layer is built with redundancy, continuous monitoring, and auditable configuration control to prevent single points of failure and enable rapid recovery. Edge nodes are deployed using hardened baseline images and Infrastructure-as-Code, allowing environments to be rebuilt consistently and quickly in the event of failure or replacement. Workloads are deployed using repeatable templates and orchestration controls to support automated restart, rollback, and controlled upgrades. The service also supports resilience through secure remote management, proactive patching, and staged maintenance processes, with optional architectures such as multi-node clusters, local redundancy, and multi-site failover to meet higher availability requirements.

In the event of an outage, the Service Delivery Manager contacts the the user to inform them. The User also has full access to a management dashboard with configurable email alerts. Further updates are then communicated using a combination of methods, including the dashboard, phone, or email in accordance with the severity of the outage as documented in our Incident Management process.
