- All VE3 administrators are required to implement two-factor authentication and use high entropy passwords for their accounts. Access to servers hosting VE3 services is strictly restricted to Faculty administrators and is allowed only via public key-based SSH authentication, with password authentication disabled by server configuration. Each VE3 administrator maintains their private SSH keys securely on computers under their physical control, employing full disk encryption for added security. To prevent brute force attacks, the firewall automatically blocks any host attempting repeated failed SSH login attempts to a single server.

- Supplier-defined controls
- Configuration and change management approach
- Configuration is classified as Restricted data and is asymmetrically encrypted with the OpenPGP standard (RFC 4880), using 2048 bit RSA keys protected with strong passphrases. The passphrases to these keys are stored in HashiCorp Vault, accessible only to VE3 administrators with individual passphrases, hosted on a server with an encrypted storage device and accessible only via public key authenticated SSH.
