Covid-19 recovery

In 2020 SCW set up a new NHS111 Clinical Assessment Service to manage responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
• We developed the service that is supplying GPs and other clinicians to support NHS111 COVID-19 clinical care with the governance, education and supervision to ensure safe patient care.
• We also built contractual frameworks that have enabled SCASFT to host the Covid-19 CAS on behalf of NHS England.
• At speed, we developed a data-warehouse and web-portal that acts as a CMS to manage clinicians from initial application to go-live.
• We developed an IT Support Desk that has received an increasing amount of delegated authority to act, not only from SCASFT but also from national organisations NHS Digital and NHS-X, as well as third-party suppliers.
• In partnership with NHS England, we developed a Locum-GP model, hosted and delivered by an Acute Trust in support of the Regions and General Practice.
• We built a programme plan that pulls together a wide stream of resources in support of the NHS111 CCAS, a plan that now includes, not only GPs but also, pharmacists, paramedics, physiotherapists and dentists.

Tackling economic inequality

SCW is proud to be the lead delivery partner for the NHS England Core20PLUS Connectors Programme which commenced in Autumn 2021.
NHS England has invested £2 million into the Core20PLUS Connectors which is now funding over 50 local Voluntary, Community, Social enterprise (VCSE) or local Healthwatch partner organisations in 24 integrated care systems (ICS) Connector sites
across England. So far, over 380 Connectors have been recruited and over 150 bespoke and local resources have been collated and shared to spread learning and best practice.

The connectors programme has been specifically designed to tackle economic and healthcare inequalities, these are defined as unfair and avoidable differences in health across the population, and between different groups within society. The conditions and social factors in which people are born, grow, live, work and age can impact our health and wellbeing these are sometimes referred to as wider determinants of health.

People living in areas of high deprivation, those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities and those from an inclusion health group, for example people experiencing homelessness, are most at risk of experiencing these inequalities.
Covid-19 has shone a harsh light on some of the health and wider inequalities that persist in our society.

Equal opportunity

SCWs strategy to ensure equality of opportunity ensures that we work closely with Organisational Development to establish an accessible equality, diversity, inclusion, wellbeing learning and development offer, focused on senior leadership development, comprising of statutory, mandatory, and self-directed learning solutions.
• Align promotion with SCW improvement sustainability
• Great Place To Work
• Building a Culture of Belonging
• Organisational Development comms plans. Evidence and report engagement and learning completion.
SCW is also committed to getting the basics right by
• Establishing an effective method of measuring and evidencing the impact of belonging at SCW
• Incorporating Gender Pay Gap
• Workforce Race Equality Standard
• Workforce Disability Equality Standard indicators alongside staff survey and wellbeing survey insights
• Evidencing Equality Impact Assessment commitment and support this with the creation of an objective and SCW representative EDIW council.

Wellbeing

SCW has a people and wellbeing team setup specifically to ensure all colleagues feel safe, respected, and valued; in line with the NHS People Promise. The people and wellbeing team are focussed on creating a great place to work, where we all feel safe and can be our authentic selves. This means valuing and respecting everyone from all backgrounds and embracing equality, diversity, inclusivity and wellbeing across everything we do.
We are committed to listening, learning, and improving on our approach to ensure these principles remain at our heart, helping us all to thrive. SCW is committed to building a culture of belonging is not just about tackling discrimination. It's not just about addressing the diverse needs of individuals. It's about getting the harmony right between equality, diversity and inclusion in order to drive wellbeing.
