Fighting climate change

Encouraging the use of public transport, attracting new niches to public transport. Offering an accessible alternative to the private vehicle to complete the first and last mile leg of a journey.

Tackling economic inequality

Nemi´s DRT solution can help to tackle transport poverty. In rural areas there will be no tram lines re-opened, no light rail system installed nor a new metro line inaugurated, for many peri-urban and rural areas public transport buses remain - and are indeed set to remain - the key form of transport providing mobility and connection to essential services (hospitals, doctor´s surgery) and opportunities for study (schools, colleges of FE, University) and work.  Providing accessible mobility options also opens up a recuitment pool for local businesses that struggle to find workers, especially in lower paid or part-time roles.

Equal opportunity

The lack of public transport mobility options in rural areas causes a mobility gap, between the inhabitants of large and small municipalities, leaving the latter at a huge disadvantage, forcing their inhabitants to rely on private transport. Unfortunately, the fact that not all households can afford a private car, people do not have a driving licence or are not entitled to drive in fact prevents access to essential services that are available to larger municipalities, such as choice of school or high school, sporting or cultural activities, employment opportunities and simply doing the weekly shopping.
Nemi´s DRT solution can help break the downward spiral relating to long travel times, unattractive PT offer, reduced service, and the ensuing social exclusion this provokes in relation to transport poverty that is hindrance to work and study opportunities, and also leisure activities for those older residents.  This element of an inclusive society is practically impossible to sustain in rural areas without a reliable, extensive and frequent public transport system.

Wellbeing

Nemi´s DRT solution can help promote a more active lifestyle, with short walks to and from the bus stop being incorporated into journeys (rather than complete journeys being made by car). For those who are no longer able or don´t feel confident driving using public transport can also help combat loneliness, get people out and about.
Real time information on arrival time at pick-up point and destination, and bus location at all times increases user confidence, encourages the uptake of the service. On demand services are a way to improve average ridership and accessibility, essentially providing choice and freedom particularly for users of public transport in rural areas – andto be independent in their travel plans with the ensuing active lifestyle (be it social, education or economic activity).
