Fighting climate change
Capacitas services across cloud, DevOps and Quality Assurance all have Cloud sustainability as a core component. AWS and Azure contribute 20 million Mega tons of CO2 emissions (2021) from cloud computing which is often not a target of organisation environmental strategy. Through cloud cost optimisation and GreenOps Capacitas focusses on activities that reduce carbon emissions of cloud and increase sustainability.Tackling economic inequality
60% of our current leadership team, including our CEO, joined us through our award-winning graduate and intern programmes. To drive social impact and continued engagement with potential hires, we engage in outreach activities with schools, such as our CEO’s recent assembly at a girls’ school, nurturing the next generation of female talent in our male-dominated industry. Our consultants regularly present at local universities with highly diverse student populations, presenting opportunities within Capacitas. We have also hired from skills bootcamps, providing opportunities for career changers to join our talented team. We provide placements for school and local university students, contributing to the long-term creation of a talent pool in the local labour market. We deliver regular internal training to provide focussed upskilling across our core services to our staff, who may have little experience prior to joining us. We sponsor staff to take recognised cloud and tooling qualifications (e.g. AWS, Azure, Dynatrace). We will continue to make these qualifications available to staff on this managed service; through flexible resourcing, we enable staff to grow skills while delivering high quality service. We track skills quarterly on our talent management system and review skill development, assuring the effectiveness of our training.Equal opportunity
One of our values is ‘we are flexible, supportive and value differences’. To enable diverse talent, we ensure the needs of each individual is respected, to uncover all talent. We mitigate the risks of direct and indirect bias at various stages of the employee lifecycle: we write job descriptions that use non-gendered terms, train our interviewers in bias awareness and ensure gender diversity in the hiring team. Organisationally, we adopt flexible working, enabling those of different religions and those with different family arrangements to work effectively. We ensure meritocratic and fair reward by sharing transparent salary bands that are industry benchmarked, as well as clear promotion criteria applicable for all staff. All staff have regular career development meetings and every senior person on our managed services will have objectives to upskill junior staff. There are equal opportunities to progress within Capacitas regardless of being from a disadvantaged or minority group, evidenced by a significant proportion of our senior as well as junior staff being of different ethnicities. Every senior person on our managed services has have objectives to upskill junior staff. As a result, most graduates are promoted within 14 months of joining us due to their rapid development. Our modern slavery policy is included in the mandatory staff handbook to ensure awareness across our staff base, including those responsible for monitoring supply and purchasing; and pay, conditions and staff satisfaction are actively monitored by our talent team.Wellbeing
Wellbeing is important at Capacitas due to our vision, which includes investing in our people, and to ensure a happy, thriving and productive team. We act to facilitate wellbeing at both the organisational and individual level through our wellbeing team, comprised of both delivery and talent department personnel, who ensure that employee satisfaction and wellbeing is taken seriously and is as high a priority as possible. We track our people’s wellbeing though regular pulse surveys and during one-to-one career management sessions with the talent department, during which wellbeing is always discussed. We can offer individual support and coaching as appropriate where wellbeing issues are raised and can intervene at the organisational level where necessary. We are conscious of potential organisational stressors and we work with senior managers to mitigate any risks to wellbeing. Enabling wellbeing is embedded at the organisational level, e.g. in our competency framework, which specifies that nurturing ones own wellbeing and, as a manager, nurturing the wellbeing of the team, is part of the job. Our values also create a company culture conducive to a healthy psychosocial environment, ensuring colleagues treat each other with respect and support. Our wellbeing team arrange regular events, supporting physical, emotional and social wellness. The wellbeing team in collaboration with the leadership team, support national wellbeing days; e.g., we have supported Mental Health Awareness Week for the past 3 years, running activities designed to increase mental wellbeing, raising the profile of mental health and general wellbeing in the workplace. Our benefits package also includes support with physical, emotional and financial wellbeing.
