How the planning service works
By applying a structured and proactive approach, Entec Si can support clients at every stage of their cloud migration; from project planning, solutions design, engagement with suppliers and implementation.

Initially, we work with our clients to help define their vision and cloud strategy. We help them to understand the drivers and anticipated benefits behind the change, leading to a key set of goals and objectives. At this stage we typically also assess the client's readiness for cloud migration in terms of both the IT systems and internal organisational setup. We apply our understanding of cloud delivery options, maturity levels and the readiness of supplier systems for cloud migration.

The next stage is to undertake a requirement gathering exercise of both functional and non-functional requirements. This includes a more detailed IT discovery assessment to help understand the "as is" and to define and shape the outcomes or outputs needed.

This typically leads to either an options appraisal or a tender exercise/process to assess the appropriate solutions to achieve the client's objectives. This is usually followed by a selection process and leading into an implementation project or programme.

How the training service works
Our overall approach to cloud-based training is to assess the full end to end training and support requirements of the client. Aligning this with the supplier's provisioning of cloud solutions, we are able to identify the "best fit" for internal training needs for cloud usage and BAU support.

As every client will have their own solutions that are suitable for their organisation, our preferred method of training is to combine people, process, and systems to develop a bespoke training programme for each implementation.

We start by undertaking a gap analysis of the current staff skill sets and what is needed in the future, review the new processes and solutions, and develop a tailored training programme. One of our key strengths is skills transfer to client staff and we usually work very closely with selected members of the client team to deliver the training to the organisation. This allows the retention of the knowledge and expertise with the client.

We will engage third party suppliers where required with specialist skills and facilitate joined up training to staff at all levels where appropriate.

We always aim to facilitate a transitional handover to the client to ensure sustainability of training.

We apply our prior experience of successful cloud migrations to establish a robust, well-designed programme and projects delivery approach. For complex multi-system migrations and new cloud implementations we bring a programme-based approach to manage key dependencies along with tight 3rd party supplier management.

We typically work together with the client's own staff as well as third party suppliers to build a "blended team" with the right skills and experiences to ensure a successful delivery. Any project of this nature is likely to involve a level of process change, technical complexity as well as organisational change. Our blended team approach enables the client's staff to take on the ownership and responsibility for the delivery of the change but with proactive support, issue, and risk management. In essence, we work to facilitate and support the process, including active hands-on work as needed. Stakeholder engagement at all levels is critical for the success of the delivery; we take pride in ensuring that stakeholder management and engagement is fundamental to our approach.

We always bring in a high level of rigour and strong co-ordination with clear stages defined for the migrations, including strategy, design, transition, testing, go-live and stabilisation.

We have consistently provided quality assurance across all previous cloud migrations to ensure that quality criteria are applied at each stage in the migration project. For cloud migrations, performance testing is highly critical given the level of dependencies across the end-to-end connections between client devices and cloud-based systems.

Our business analysis services ensure that the client's requirements are well captured and documented at the start of the process to assist with the shaping of testing scenarios. This enables us to develop a thorough set of testing plans and test scripts that are needed during the testing phase. We have experience of both the standard waterfall approach and agile developments where testing is applied in a more iterative manner with performance testing at a component and overarching level.

Furthermore, we often facilitate and manage all aspects of testing in any project's lifecycle, including the commissioning, planning and execution of performance testing, which is typically undertaken by specialist third party organisations. All aspects of testing in any implementation will be subject to a set of predefined quality criteria that are documented at the outset. Our systemic, well designed quality standards are applied across the performance testing stage with client sign-off.
