Planning

Planning service
Yes
How the planning service works
Our work is planned and delivered following the agile methodology. The project roadmap is broken down and organised into short, iterative sprint cycles. We ensure continuous client input at the end of each cycle through a project steering group comprised of client stakeholders, technical directors, and the delivery team. All members of the steering group have visibility of, and input into, the project backlog. Constant visibility into project activity ensures that the client is kept well-informed of progress at all stages and can influence project direction with respect to evolving requirements. The agile development processes ensures project delivery is flexible and resilient to these influences.

How the setup or migration service works
GHD offer a range of services designed to efficiently, cost effectively and securely migrate our customers systems and data to the cloud, ensuring the benefits of the cloud environment are realised. This includes: Cloud transformation programs to help build the vision, strategy and value proposition of adopting the cloud; data migration and architecture projects ranging from migration of an individual database to migrating, re-architecting and cleansing complex multi-datastore systems; system integration, integrating and aligning disparate systems to unlock latent value and enable a self-service analytics approach. GHD will work alongside your teams to develop robust plans and deliver complete data migration solutions with minimal business disruption. Quality assurance and performance testing

Quality assurance and performance testing service
Yes
How the quality assurance and performance testing works
We build quality assurance into our workflow through continuous client feedback, automated testing and manual approval checkpoints, and transparent quality control processes aligned to your organisation's standard practices and/or wider industry best practice. Technical assurance is handled through unit and integration testing, multiple environments with manual approval needed for production releases, user acceptance testing, and load testing where appropriate by simulating network traffic or production-like processing workloads. We ensure automated test configuration and reporting is made available to the client for transparency. We ensure there is client engagement and feedback at the end of each sprint cycle. To further maintain alignment with your organisation's practices and industry best practice, relevant reports, milestones, and risks are discussed at sprint review meetings to ensure the client is kept up-to-date with project activity and that there are no surprises in progress. Quality control documentation that captures the required standards and practices is regularly updated and stored in a workspace shared by the client and delivery team.

Fighting climate change

Our response to climate change spans from the boardroom to communities. Our strategy considers a range of scenarios that include climate change impacts such as energy transition and extreme weather. To manage the impact of our business on climate change, we are implementing changes in our internal operations (i.e. operations, premises, supply chains) and supporting our clients to achieve their sustainability objectives, including:
Project Selection Guidelines
All client projects are run with environmental impact in mind. We strive to partner with clients who share our aspirations, ensuring all projects align with our project selection guidelines, including:
- Carbon Neutrality Target: As part of our Decarbonisation Plan, GHD set a goal to achieve carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by the end of 2023. We achieved this by combining GHG emissions reductions with the purchase of verified nature-based carbon offsets. Furthermore, for all projects requiring meetings with clients, we will minimise emissions by holding virtual meetings where possible. Alternatively, we will travel to meetings by public transport or where public transport is not possible, we use our internal fleet of low or zero emissions vehicles.
- Science-Based Net-Zero Target: GHD is committed to setting a science-based net-zero target approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). SBTi enables businesses to set emissions reduction targets in line with climate science, focusing on achieving net-zero emissions before 2050. This target will include both near-term and long-term goals to further reduce Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions.
- Fossil Fuels Projects: We avoid certain types of projects including those related to greenfield thermal coal mines, brownfield thermal coal mine expansions (except in support of low-carbon energy solutions), new coal-fired or oil-fired power stations, expansion of existing coal-fired or oil-fired power stations, and greenfield oil exploration or production.

Equal opportunity

GHD operates under an equal opportunities policy, which sets out our approach to ensuring fairness and equality in employment practices. These include elements such as fair and transparent recruitment practices, which actively seek and attract members of underrepresented groups via job adverts at places like Black Young Professionals Network, Women’s Engineering Society and SheCanCode. We will follow these equal opportunities recruitment practices for any new employees recruited for G-Cloud related projects to ensure we attract a diverse range of qualified people.
Additionally, any staff working on or employed for G-Cloud related projects (including support staff and those working directly with clients) will have access to and/or support from the below initiatives and programmes:
Unconscious Bias Training: we provide training to employees on recognising and addressing unconscious biases. By raising awareness, employees can make more informed hiring and business decisions and contribute to a fair and equitable workplace.
Flexible Work Arrangements: We offer flexible work arrangements, including remote work options, part time contracts and flexible hours, to accommodate employees’ diverse needs. This helps create a more inclusive workplace for individuals with caring responsibilities and keep parents in the workforce, retaining skilled workers for our clients’ projects.
Equal Pay and Gender Equity: We have partnered with Syndio who provide third-party oversight on pay equity and pay gaps, helping us to identify and address areas of pay inequity.
Employee Resource Groups (ERGs): ERGs provide a platform for employees to connect, share experiences, and advocate for specific groups (e.g., women, LGBTQ+ team members, people with disabilities, black colleagues and neurodiverse individuals). These groups contribute to a sense of belonging and support, while driving positive change.
Mentorship and Sponsorship Programs: GHD encourages mentorship and sponsorship relationships to help employees advance in their careers. These programs provide guidance, networking opportunities, and professional development.

Wellbeing

GHD prioritises employee wellbeing through initiatives and policies, which will be available to all employees working on G-Cloud contracts, including any new employees. These include:
1. Wellbeing Strategy: GHD has a holistic wellbeing strategy focusing on key areas:
o Supporting Employees: We address individual needs, workplace environments, and relationships among employees, this includes flexible working –both the location and hours of work are flexible to allow employees to balance work and home life.
o Integrating Wellbeing: Wellbeing practices are integrated into daily work routines and leadership practices, with all large meetings including a wellbeing moment to allow reflection and learning about an aspect of wellbeing.
o Mental Health Responders: Over 30 people in the UK have been externally trained as mental health responders who provide support to employees with a well-being issue.
o Enhancing Employee Experience: GHD aims to create an environment where employees feel proud to work. Quarterly staff surveys track employee wellbeing and trends to allow intervention and improvements.
o Empowering growth: Staff are mentored and provide mentoring, have access to training and development opportunities as well as ad hoc support to encourage growth and career development.
o Executive level support: In 2022, we appointed a global wellbeing lead to drive wellbeing across the company.
2. Employee Benefits:
o Medical Insurance: Includes counselling and access to private healthcare supporting both mental and physical wellbeing.
o Income Protection: Provides financial security should employees be unable to work due to illness.
o Employee Assistance Program: Offers confidential mental health support.
o Gym and Wellness Discounts: Encourages physical well-being.
o Reproductive health support: via the Maven app, supporting employees who are struggling with fertility, becoming parents or going through menopause with free access to experts and information.
