Fighting climate change

We’re fighting climate change by proactively using public transport when travelling, or electric vehicles if owned. We have a cycle to work scheme. Recycling and/or composting of any paper used, although digital notes are encouraged. Light and plug sockets in office areas are on timers and all electrical equipment turned off when not in use. All team members use 100% Renewable energy providers - incentivising solar panels in homes. Fossil free pension plans with PensionBee for Directors. We ensure that all office catering is vegetarian. Chicken as a member of Sustainable Web Manifesto we’re improving web performance to lower carbon emissions on the web. 100% of our websites are hosted on green hosting and where we can choose to host, green hosting will always come first. We participate in the Client Disclosure practice - and reveal the percentage of our company turnover by industry category, including fossil fuel and other high carbon clients. This year our percentage of revenue from these industries has always been zero. In our sustainability policy we've started to monitor and report our carbon footprint (Scope 1 and 2 emissions) to help us reach net zero carbon emissions

Covid-19 recovery

Chicken was founded after Covid-19 was at its highest but we’re aware that it isn’t over and other viruses can also be debilitating to people. As part of our sustainability and wellness policies we encourage working from home, and not working if you’re unwell as it isn’t productive or safe for people to do so. We understand the effects of Long Covid and other autoimmune diseases encourage people to work when and how it suits them.

Tackling economic inequality

We are constantly reviewing our supply chain and moving to the most environmentally efficient suppliers where possible in order for us to keep our services of high quality to us, our clients and those affected by our services. When making websites, we aim to make sure they’re as accessible as possible. This helps with reducing economic inequality by ensuring that users of the website with old or shared devices are still able to access the information they need.

Equal opportunity

We employ team members based solely on ability and experience, regardless of gender, race, religion or disability. Including our regular contractors, our team is 50% male and 50% female.

Wellbeing

Chicken exists because employee wellbeing is a priority for our business values. We strongly believe that people do their best work when they are feeling their best. We do this by being distributed, having flexible office hours. Family and personal time comes before work. We encourage walking as a problem solving method.
