Fighting climate change
Our commitment to environmental stewardship centres around our bold pledge to achieve Carbon Net Zero 20 years ahead of government recommendations, serving as our guiding principle in all our future action. This ambitious promise, set for realisation by 2030, will involve continuous operational overhauls, shifts in mindset, and significant financial investments. We recognise that achieving this goal demands sacrifices and innovation, utilising the expertise of our top tech minds and our individual passion to succeed. In addition to our Carbon Net Zero pledge, we will ‘make a difference in the world’ by actively contributing to broader sustainability efforts within our communities. This multifaceted approach involves investing in high-quality carbon credits to support diverse ecosystem and sustainability projects worldwide. To support this we will establish a longer-term environmental partnership (aiming to span at least three years), empowering our employees to engage in fundraising activities and volunteer initiatives, such as tree planting and habitat restoration, nurturing team collaboration and environmental stewardship. To prioritise our efforts, we will target our carbon footprint through the highest carbon emissions categories (hotspots), as identified in our recent 2024 carbon baseline assessment. Our initial focus will be on green travel, renewable energy, and capital goods. Our voluntary commitments will be reinforced by adherence to leading standards such as the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and alignment with shortlisted United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, notably 'Climate Action,' alongside participation in initiatives like the UN Race to Zero campaign. By FY25-25, we aim to validate our efforts through formal verification while transparently disclosing our carbon accounting data in accordance with a newly formulated carbon reduction plan.Equal opportunity
Our goal is representing the same diversity figures as the UK. Our defined dimensions encompass gender, social mobility and socioeconomic status, disability and diverse abilities, neurodiversity, LGBTQ+, ethnicity and race, families and generations, faith and religion, and diverse perspectives. Aligned with our focus on UN goals, we prioritise 'gender equality,' 'reduced inequalities,' and 'quality education,' recognising their pivotal roles in creating inclusivity and equity. While celebrating recent anecdotal success, particularly in recruitment diversity, we also acknowledge a challenge around outsourced clearance that takes away any significant control on continued diversity improvements. Overcoming constraints requires addressing these barriers and transitioning anecdotal insights into transparent, real-time metrics. In parallel with data gathering, we aim to align to relevant frameworks/standards immediately. Utilising resources like the Tech Talent Charter enables us to learn from proven initiatives and best practices and draw benchmarks. Additionally, we would like to prepare for alignment with key standards tailored to specific dimensions, such as Disability Confident for disability and diverse abilities. Initiatives include communicating the lived experiences of our employees to encourage openness and dispel stigmas. EDI training to enhance understanding and comfort among employees, while policy reviews will ensure relevance and inclusivity. Proactive business readiness planning is a key initiative to prepare us for future diversity – for example having a proactive plan ready to go should we welcome a deaf or limited mobility worker. Aligned with our chosen UN goals and business strategy, we will prioritise focus areas such as 'gender,' 'social mobility and socioeconomic status,' and 'disability and diverse abilities' within the defined nine dimensions, looking to our employee feedback, wider external expertise, and outreach opportunities to advance those dimensions.Wellbeing
In our commitment to a healthy and thriving workplace, we prioritise proactive understanding and comprehensive support for our employees. Central to our values is the recognition that our people are our greatest asset, motivating us to elevate health and wellbeing as a dedicated pillar rather than merely a subset of EDI. We acknowledge the importance of training and equipping our future wellbeing champions and managers with the necessary skills to establish a robust support structure. Therefore, we will pursue ongoing alignment with MHFA standards. Addressing mental health in the workplace, we will adhere to the government standard outlined in 'Thriving at Work,' initially working towards a core standard in the first year and progressing to an enhanced standard in subsequent years. Establishing external partnerships with health and wellbeing experts will empower our workforce with diagnostic tools to identify and address minor issues before they escalate, driving tailored health initiatives. Additionally, we will implement mechanisms for tracking metrics and identifying trends. While our primary focus areas encompass mental and physical health, we will incorporate other dimensions such as emotional, financial, and nutritional wellbeing. We recognize the value of connecting with the experiences of our employees and leadership team to destigmatise mental health struggles, therefore our engagement efforts will prioritise relatable experiences over generic awareness campaigns. We will also consult with project leads to understand their specific health and wellbeing needs outside of the cocoon of Gemba. Our initiatives will extend to supporting life transitions with policies tailored to menopause and workplace transitioning, promoting work-life balance, enhancing fitness partnerships, and facilitating awareness and training programs.
