Fighting climate change

We are committed to reducing our impact upon the environment both locally and globally, through:
- Encouraging staff to travel to work via public transport and minimise unnecessary travel
- Employing newer, lower-emissions vehicles in our fleet
- Providing cycle-to-work scheme for employees
- Reducing our resource consumption: reusing resources where possible and supporting a circular economy
- Partnering with waste recycling suppliers who sort and recycle all waste from our offices
- Seeking suppliers who demonstrate a commitment to sustainability
- Using sustainable procurement practices

Tackling economic inequality

Our goal is to make local government decision making easier, open and accessible to all. Our service enables people to view and paricipate in council meetings from home via the internet, making vital meetings available to all. This enables people from all backgrounds to access video and audio of meetings in which key decisions are made. Our service allows access to the general public who may otherwise not be able to attend in person, for example due to a disability, location or other commitments.

Equal opportunity

Public-i is a living wage employer. All staff are paid at least the living wage.
We have two offices in England: Hove and Halifax. Both offer employment within our local areas but also nationally; as many of our roles can be entirely remote.
Public-i actively encourages people to rejoin the workforce who may have been out of work for some time (for whatever reason). We do this through offering flexible working arrangements wherever possible and by working closely with our local Job Centres and colleges to attract talent to new positions.
In particular, we recognise that parents and those with caring responsibilities face unique barriers to work; hence offer all part-time roles on a flexible school-hours basis with the right to alter shift patterns to accommodate caring needs during school holidays, etc.
We are committed to growing and developing our staff. From day one, all staff have access to high-quality training, both in-house and externally. Staff are encouraged to achieve externally recognised qualifications such as CTS, CIMA or other relevant professional courses.

Public-i have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and are also committed to providing Digital Skills Training sessions as part of our social value targets.

Wellbeing

Our services comply with public sector accessibility regulations and the WCAG 2.1 AA standard. Every two years, our webcasting sites’ accessibility is tested by a third-party organization called Shaw Trust. This ensures that our accessibility features are up to standard and are in line with the latest best practices.
Our webcasting solutions include a wide range of accessibility features, such as:
- subtitles and transcripts (see section 2.2)
- an accessibility statement page and feedback form
- an accessibility settings page in Connect admin (which allows alt text for webcast thumbnails and link styling)
- detailed accessibility documentation in KnowledgeBase
- pages, content and forms are developed to be easy to navigate for assistive technologies.
These features are vital for meeting local government accessibility requirements and are not all present in other webcasting services, including YouTube, which fall far short of the WCAG 2.1 AA standard.
Public-i’s accreditation certificate is available on our website. Accessibility is an ever-moving target, and we will continue to make improvements to achieve best practice standards. Our commitment to accessibility sets us apart from other webcasting services, and we are proud to offer our clients a solution that meets the highest standards of accessibility.

Furthermore, Public-i are committed to supporting charities local to our two office locations (Hove, Sussex and Halifax, Yorkshire) and national charities, through staff fundraisers, tuck shop and cake sales.
