Our LMS and E-Learning is cloud hosted on AWS. Cloud hosting is significantly more efficient than on-premises hosting. Additionally, AWS services are up to 5 times more energy efficient than the average European enterprise data center. AWS use predominantly renewable energy. In 2022 90% of the energy consumed by the company was generated from renewable sources, with a goal to reach 100% by 2025. Therefore, the cloud hosting of our LMS and eLearning delivers increased efficiencies and cleaner energy usage, reducing carbon emmisions significantly.
Our services have a 'digital as default' delivery model. This reduces the level of emissions that would be generated by the travel required for service delivery and support. We can provide site visits, if necessary, but our efficient and responsive online support and delivery renders this unnecessary in the majority of circumstances.
Our workforce adopt a hybrid working model. They have the ability to work from home 50% of the time. This substantially reduces scope 3 emissions related to commuting. We have a board approved and published Carbon Reduction Plan and are committed to be net-zero by 2035. Please find our Carbon Reduction Plan on our website www.skillsforhealth.org.uk.Covid-19 recovery
We have created a mobile and interactive COVID-19 Awareness Training Solution. This met the increased demands on key workers, in the face of ongoing workplace challenges resulting from the pandemic. The course has received over 58,000 registrations, from NHS, health, care, and wider public sector professionals since it launched on 25th March 2020. It is available, free of charge, to our clients and stakeholders. We were delighted to have our work related to this course recognised by 2021’s national Covid Response Awards, winning Silver in the ‘Best Covid-19 Response Involving The Public Sector’ category. The judges conclude that we provided a “Fabulous and rapid response to a clear need from front-line NHS staff.” They particularly commended us for delivering “A difficult project that involved rapidly changing guidance at speed to thousands of skilled professionals longing to use their skills to help.”
We provide valuable training on a broad range of topics crucial to managing pandemics. Providing knowledge on staying safe and reducing the spread of viruses. Including Respiratory Hygiene; Effective use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); Recognising signs and symptoms; Hand Hygiene; Infection Prevention & Control.
Our website (www.skillsforhealth.org.uk) continues to provide a rich source of insights and resources relating to the recovery of the COVID-19 Pandemic.Tackling economic inequality
We are a not-for-profit registered charity. Any surplus we make is re-invested into improving our products and services, to benefit the sectors and clients we serve.
Within our own workforce, we ensure our jobs are advertised on open and accessible platforms, with transparently advertised salaries. We also ensure there are internal opportunities for our employees to upskill, by providing personal development funding. We look to create opportunities for entry level positions where possible - e.g. graduate roles, apprenticeships, government schemes (e.g. previously, Kickstart) - providing opportunities for young people and those with limited experience to access employment and overcome some of the barriers to entering the workplace.Equal opportunity
We provide EDI courses as part of our eLearning catalogue. The course introduces the Equality Act 2010 and the Human Right Act 1998. Learners study how to challenge discrimination, promote inclusion, and understand the responsibilities we have to uphold equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights.
We also have awareness eLearning training for Autism, Learning Disability, Dementia, Epilepsy, menopause, and lGBTQ+ Awareness.
Our LearnSpace meets WCAG 2.1 AA or EN 301 549 accessibility standards. All our courses include inclusive imagery and animations. All animations are captioned and have transcripts. All material is screen reader compatible.
eLearning provides an accessible skills development platform for all members of the community. Enabling people with varying demands and living circumstances to access learning in a flexible manner. The flexibility and accessibility afforded assists in equal opportunity provision of training and upskilling.
We take great pride in upholding our responsibilities relating to equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), guided by the protected characteristics in the Equality Act (2010). This is enshrined in our, recently reviewed and updated, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Policy that applies to all our business operations and employee lifecycle and encompasses all protected characteristicsWellbeing
Our service delivery prioritises the wellbeing of the individuals who access our services. Our team are sensitive to the pressures and demands on the stakeholders we deliver eLearning and LMS to and therefore we offer timely support, where it is needed.
We also offer eLearning for Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Awareness and prevention.
Many of our courses also support the dissemination of information to support physical wellbeing of the clients workforce. For example, 'Working With Display Screen Equipment' and 'Moving and Handling'.
