- How the planning service works
- Pilot Works' key strength is in the planning and design of digital services to meet user needs and help organisations achieve their goals. We are experts in the Discovery and Alpha phases and offer a full suite of design services including: User research, business analysis, user experience design, content design and information architecture, technical architecture, product management and delivery management. Ideally, we offer this service through a collaborative 'one-team' approach, working alongside our clients and internal subject matter experts, so that they fully understand and 'own' the design of the cloud based solution

- How the training service works
- We offer formal training in how to deliver Discovery and Alpha phases. We also offer coaching and consultancy to teams engaged in service design, with particular emphasis on user-centred design and agile methods applied to the service design process. Our clients also benefit from skills transfer through collaborative working whilst engaged on projects. This typically comes through working alongside us as ‘one team’, or through coaching and workshops.

- How the setup or migration service works
-
At the start of a project Pilot Works will work with you to understand your goals for the new service, who your users are and their needs, and any technical, policy and legal constraints for the service.
We will use this information to identify candidate solutions for the new service and the key risks and assumptions that need to be tested. We will then work with you to define a delivery roadmap including planning how the service will be migrated to the cloud.
We will also create recommendations for an appropriate operating model to ensure there is a sustainable plan for how the new service will be managed, supported and improved through life. - Setup or migration service is for specific cloud services

Pilot Works places an emphasis on quality. We take an agile approach to projects and continuously review our processes to identify improvements. This is done collaboratively with clients through regular retrospectives. We also actively seek client feedback through interviews and client questionnaires.
Other measures include
* Only employing staff and associates who are highly experienced
* Using pair programming / pair writing (as appropriate) to avoid errors
For technical projects we work with clients to create an appropriate testing strategy. This typically includes:
* Using behavioural driven development (BDD) to ensure business logic is captured and implemented correctly
* Creating automated tests to test any changes are safe before they are deployed
* Deciding how we will test the accessibility of the service
* Defining performance levels needed for the service and testing that the service will be able to meet these in real life conditions
