Fighting climate change

We are committed to doing everything we can to help tackle climate change and encourage all organisations and individuals we work with to do the same.

• In 2019, our senior leadership team set the ambitious objective to become a Carbon Negative organisation by 2025. Through our Environmental Policy, the hard work of our team, and the below activities, we are proud that we achieved this milestone in 2022, significantly ahead of schedule.

• Based on our Environmental Policy we are committed to:
o Continuous offsetting of CO2.

o Undertaking Environmental Impact Assessments (example metrics: emission reductions, water-use and waste-to-landfill), driving our eco-policies.

o Ensure our supply-chain contracts request a Green Commitment from suppliers (e.g. use of electronic as opposed to printed communications reducing waste to landfill, minimising travel emissions etc.).

o Perform analysis of team travelling patterns, where appropriate, to identify distance reduction mechanisms e.g. use of different site, remote working etc, including promotion of public transport.

o Actively influence our staff and supply chain to be eco conscious e.g. Monthly "Easy EcoTips" to all staff to increase awareness (e.g. parcel collection from local central repositories vs. home delivery reduces carbon emissions by 90%).

In addition, with the holistic objective of influencing effective stewardship of the environment we:
• Are proud sponsors of multiple carbon-offsetting organisations including: MyCarbonPlan | CarbonFootprint.com | CarbonNeutralBritain.

• Are committed to habitat creation, as proud sponsors of organisations such as Make It Wild, creating hundreds of acres of wildlife friendly environments:

“ More trees, more meadows. Once there is a place for wildlife, it arrives! ”

As further evidence of our team’s success in tackling emissions, in partnership with a large public sector body, we were awarded the Scottish Environment Business Awards/Vibes Award, reflecting a 700+ tonnes carbon saving.

Covid-19 recovery

At every stage we aim to support our employees/their families/the community with all aspects of COVID-19 including support to long-covid sufferers.

Our employee Health-and-Wellbeing scheme offers guidance on managing yours/your loved-ones’ physical/mental-health during the pandemic both when well and when suffering from a COVID-19-infection. It provides access to practical-advice on minimising infection-risk and on when/how to request medical/other care-related services, helping to ensure the team know how to quickly get needed-help whilst minimising unnecessary burden on NHS/other-services.

We support 100% work-from-home policy and offer flexibility regarding working hours wherever possible.

We encourage our employees to create Wellness-Action-Plans that can be shared with us and discussed during 1-2-1s to support their physical/mental health needs specifically to reduce demand on healthcare-services. These Action-Plans include mechanisms by which the team can help their local communities (food/medicine shopping for those unable, telephone helpline volunteering etc).

Tackling economic inequality

We’re committed to providing employment and training opportunities which give real/long lasting benefit, especially in high-growth areas where the speed-of-growth can lead to skills shortages.

For example, we have a special focus on Low Code, which allows for super fast build processes and for non developers to create applications/systems without a traditional coding background. We believe this will constitute a large portion of future systems-development (research suggests 65% of all app-development will be low-code in 5 years). As such, we offer technical employees the opportunity to become formally qualified in low-code development (e.g. Oracle Application Express).

We’re proud-supporters of The-Prince’s-Trust which has helped >1,000,000 young people to find the tools, training and confidence to embark on careers, including in high growth areas and those with skills-shortages including nursing.

We have relationships with universities/colleges including Brunel (e.g. building systems supporting disabled students) and Cornwall College, “the Career College”, promoting careers in software development, especially Low-Code, to BTEC and Degree students

Equal opportunity

Equality

We believe equality in the workplace is not only a moral obligation of employers but essential for the successful operation of any business.

We operate a strict Equal Opportunities Policy engrained in our ISO 9001 accredited processes ensuring that this principle is at the core of all we do, mandating, for example, in line with statutory requirements, that there is no discrimination based on Age, Sex, Race, Disability, Pregnancy, Marital status, Sexual orientation, Gender reassignment, Religious background.

Further, we provide access to information/articles relating to the potentially insidious/hidden nature of discrimination and how we can work together to combat it.

Our staff are encouraged to undertake ACAS Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training annually.

Equality in our supply-chain is contractually-enforced via DEFCON-516 (Equality) / equivalent-terms.

Diversity

We encourage and celebrate a diverse workforce based on our Equality and DiversityPolicy. We are proud of our team’s diversity which includes ethnic minority, LGBTQ+ and disabled members. A team with members from varied-backgrounds, cultures and viewpoints will approach problems in equally-varied ways, driving innovation, creativity and ultimately better results. Furthermore, a diverse rather than homogenous team breeds inclusivity as a core trait, improving morale and productivity as well as allowing new team members to feel a real part of the team more quickly.

We provide access to information on the importance of diversity and encourages our team to always consider it.

Wellbeing

Total Support

We offer employees private medical insurance (Vitality): same-day GP access | Healthy Living initiatives | Health Screening | etc.

As a Disability Confident employer, we undertake accessible/inclusive recruitment and provide flexible-working/remote-working/other support.

Our policies on language-use promote inclusivity.

We’re committed to:

• The Six-Standards of the Mental-Health-At-Work community, prioritising workplace mental health to ensure our workforce is Thriving at Work.
• Following the recommendations of the Voluntary-Reporting-Framework, report on staff’s health/wellbeing.
• Development of engagement-plans with our contract workforce to decide upon the most important supply-chain health/well-being issues to address.
• Formalised HR-processes to measure the engagement of our staff with our health/wellbeing policies,
along with action plans to improve/adapt.

Our Employee Support Partners, Able Futures, offer the entire team:

• One-to-one coaching/support sessions with Mental Health Support Workers:anxiety|stress|depression|etc.
• Webinars: Self-Compassion|Coping-with-Change|Kindness|Mental-Health-in-Winter|etc

We encourage the team to undertake annual ACAS training to help them better look after each other:
Bullying/Harrassment | Disability-Discrimination | Equality | Diversity | Managing Absence | etc.

Staff-satisfaction/well-being surveys allow us to understand our team’s mood. Collaborative efforts can be used to address issues.

We adopt a Thankful-Culture (e.g. in sprint retrospectives) where the importance of showing gratitude is emphasised, e.g. to:team-mates|partners|stakeholders|customers|etc. This aids team-cohesion, morale and productivity.

Our Diversity Policy promotes diversity/equality including LGBTQ+ personnel and a respect for each team member to specify their pronouns. Our diverse team includes LGBTQIA+ and disabled personnel.

As part of our Armed Forces Covenant commitment, we have provided additional paid leave to our MOD Reservists
for annual military training promoting a healthy/fulfilling life outside of work.

We encourage our team/suppliers to support MOD health policies including Army’s drive to extinguish smoking.
