Work is carried out by the majority of Box UK staff working remotely at the company’s premises in Cardiff and also on client’s premises. Fighting climate change

Box UK is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
Having measured a benchmark relating to Baseline Emissions calculations in July 2020, we have reported emissions readings moving forward In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero. We have adopted the following carbon reduction targets - we project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 36936 tCO2e by 2027. This is a reduction of 30%.
The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2020 baseline. The carbon emission reduction achieved by these schemes equate to 16,781 tCO2e, a 24%ge reduction against the 2020 baseline and the measures will be in effect when performing the contract.
In the future we hope to implement further measures such as: Reduction in Office Space, removing an additional refrigerator and generating less electricity consumption.
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standards for Carbon Reduction Plans.
Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting.
Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard].
Through these concerted efforts, we aim to steadily decrease our carbon footprint and create a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future for our organisation.

Covid-19 recovery

As a digital agency, Box UK was able to effectively continue providing remote services throughout the Covid-19 lockdown period. This ensured that we were able to retain all of our employees in their usual capacity, albeit working from home. This shift to remote working has allowed us to modify our recruitment strategy to encompass the entirety of the UK, allowing us to support individuals looking for work nationwide.
Furthermore, to support employee wellbeing, notably mental health, we continue with our employee assistance programme as part of our employee benefit scheme, ensuring that colleagues have avenues of support as required.

Tackling economic inequality

Box UK proactively engages in recruiting locally and providing education opportunities, and also has business strategies around service provision to Welsh organisations.
Future skills development
Recognising the importance of developing the workforce of tomorrow, we engage local colleges and universities in open two-way dialogue about upskilling their students and becoming an employer of choice for their graduates.
In partnership with Cardiff Metropolitan University, Box UK is supporting the delivery of a professional skills module designed to support students in developing teamwork, problem solving, communication, motivation and resilience skills - all vital for them to develop as part of their ongoing career and development.
We collaboratively with the Career Confident team at Cardiff University to achieve their aim of supporting underrepresented students in Higher Education to find tailored work experience and access employability support.
We offer mentoring opportunities for students pursuing a career within the digital sector, offering placements to support them on their development journey.
We actively provide speakers and run workshops for students and wider events that inform and shape the digital economy in Wales.
Box UK encourages active involvement in volunteering opportunities for our employees. Recently employees have given a presentation on career development opportunities to women being supported by a domestic violence charity and have led a residential Scout camp to support the development of outdoor skills and environmental awareness.
Box UK makes generous donations to charity as a business, in addition to hosting charity fundraisers that involve our employees we support nominated charities annually.
Acutely aware of the extreme cost of living challenges being felt by many throughout our communities, last December our employees took part in a joint initiative with Cardiff Food Bank to prepare food parcels for the local community, as well as purchasing toys that were donated to the Barnardos Christmas appeal.

In addition to basic health and safety requirements, we have also implemented a number of measures to ensure staff wellbeing. These include
Hybrid working - supporting a better work/life balance, hybrid and flexible working options allow employees to more effectively balance the demands of their working and personal lives without compromising on either.
Awareness raising - mental health is something that is rightly becoming more and more visible in the public eye. As such, we have taken steps to ensure that employees have appropriate support for any mental health issues that may be facing. This includes provision of trained mental health first aiders as well as encouraging colleagues to become Everymind Champions.
1:1s and check ins - wellbeing is built into our performance management processes. Checking on the employee’s wellbeing is just as important as management of any performance tasks, target setting etc. during these meetings.
Healthcare provision - Box UK operates private healthcare schemes for employees, as well as an employee assistance programme to provide support as required.

In addition to the above, in relation to more general health and safety, we:
1. Make the working environment as safe and healthy as reasonably practicable to do so.
2. Reduce hazards which cannot be completely eliminated by introducing safe procedures, and effectively training and instructing employees. 3. Actively involve all employees in Box UK’s efforts to promote safety and health.
4. Make regular safety inspections of premises, work equipment and processes.
5. Regularly monitor and review health and safety performance, making adjustments whenever necessary to maintain good health and safety standards.
