Fighting climate change
eXceeding, is working towards its carbon neutral goal, part of this initiative our first step is to look at staff travel and focus on reducing unnecessary travel. All staff worked remotely two days a week since 2019 pre Covid Pandemic, we have also installed electric vehicle charging infrastructure at the office.
As an organisation, we hold ISO14001 certification, a strategic initiative since 2016, has been to reduce our head office gas and electric consumption, we have achieved this by 5% year on year, since 2016. We have implemented remote monitoring and controlling software, which provides zonal heating. Our management meetings, constantly address new initiatives and innovations to fight climate change. We have investigated solar energy, but due to the nature of our office building (a stone build, clay plan tiled barn conversion) it was deemed unsuitable. In 2022 we have again invested in increased office insulation.
We have recruited locally sourced employees, with up to half of our team living within 20 miles of our office. All staff work from home 3 days a week. This has led to a 60% reduction in work related travel and reduced the CO2 generated from heating the office on these days.
Through the projects we support we influence how social value is embedded, monitored and reported against to manage reduction of CO2. We have supported customers and suppliers alike to move towards their Net Zero target via sustainable procurements initiatives.

Between 2022 and 2025 we will continue improve our environmental sustainability, by the end of 2025, we will see sustainability become an increasing part of the decision-making across our organisation, our clients and our sector. We will change and adapt our ways of working. Our approach will enhance our business output and improve our organisational resilience.Covid-19 recovery
The past couple of years has shown unprecedented resilience within the work space – whether directly or indirectly.
eXceeding has indirectly supported our end clients, through their Charitable organisation and supply chain commitment to Covid recovery. We are empathetic to the toll Covid has placed upon our team, customers and supply chain; hence we are constantly reviewing how we engage with these business critical elements.
We have embraced a hybrid working model prior to Covid, which has successful enhanced team performances – while ensuring we continue with our Duty of Care, assessing their physical and mental wellbeing. This monitoring has directly reduced the need to add additional burden on our already stretched health services – as we are in a strong position to identify and support our team, prior to full escalation to multi agencies is required. Two examples of the types of initiatives we have supported:
• We have collaborated with a local NHS Trust to jointly fund an initiative to actively support new local businesses with business guidance and networking. This has generated local employment and dramatically increased re-training opportunities for SME’s and individuals, some of which faced barriers to employment and came from deprived areas.
• We work with a local Housing Association to support vulnerable residents (who are often shielding) who have been left increasingly isolated by Covid. The schemes has led to the employment of a dedicated support team who provide practical property maintenance.
We have increased local SMEs contracts within our and our client’s supply chain – this directly supports our more public sector spend with SMEs, whilst tackling climate change, through our Green Travel Plan We focus on virtual meetings first and only under extreme criteria do we participate in face to face meetings.Tackling economic inequality

We also provide bid training and support to a range of SME’s who are targeting the public sector and aim to upskill them to increase their participation in this market. This training and support has led to a number of noticeable successes which generated additional local employment requirements.
Over the past year, we have increased our gender gap recruitment and have now achieved 50/50 representation within the workforce. We have revised our approach to recruitment, whereby we have encouraged previously stay at home parents to enter the work environment, on both full-time and part-time basis and targeted local deprived areas to source new recruits. Since the end of lockdown, we have successfully retained our workforce – partly due to our hybrid working model, CPD and reviewing internal roles – we have achieved success in placing the correct employee in a defined role we which suits their needs rather than just skills.
Through client and supplier relationships, we have successful re-evaluated ours and our clients supplier base, modernised our delivery approach and gained increased resilience and capacity to supply chains.
We will support educational attainment relevant to the contract, including training schemes that address skills gaps and result in recognised qualifications.Wellbeing
When the recent pandemic had forced employees to work from home, eXceeding had ensured a policy was put in place to look after its employees' wellbeing as well as those impacted in the family as a result of its employees working from home. This policy ensures all employees have the necessary equipment and assesses their home environment for 1) Health and Safety and 2) Personal Situations, Vulnerabilities and Dependencies.
Our welfare surveillance and prevention programme has ensured that we identify health issues affecting staff early and if required manage the impact they may have on how staff perform their duties.

We have recently implemented consciousness time away from screen initiatives – this has been in the form of either walking meetings or impromptu team coffee breaks. The outcomes of the employee pulse survey, has steered the direction of how we monitor and address the needs of our team – each team member requires a different mode of down time – we are embracing of this difference and accommodate to the best of our ability.
Whenever we engage with new clients we always consider how we can work together to integrate social value elements into the contract to ensure a joint focus. Wellbeing elements have become increasingly important both with the eXceeding and client’s teams but also the end to end supply chain and local communities. We have a proven methodology to map and report on progress against the agreed objectives.
