• How the planning service works: Broadlight has a flexible and experienced approach to planning work for our services. Most typically we adopt an inclusive Agile approach where work is initially analysed in a discovery activity to reduce cost and truly align the team and understand the challenge and order of magnitude. Following on from a Sprint 0 or discovery phase, we will typically work using either our own tooling such as Jira and Azure DevOps or, if required, using any bespoke tools our clients wish to use. We believe in regular feedback loops, using show and tell or product/service demonstrations frequently and transparently to build stakeholder and customer confidence, whilst allowing us to shape every engagement quickly, maintaining quality whilst still able to take on unexpected challenges or changes in requirements without a drastic replanning exercise. Adopting Agile and DevOps principles to the majority of our work, we believe in measurement, observability, frequent feedback cycles and using diverse teams in a high-performing atmosphere of psychological safety. We are familiar with the vast majority of project and service management methodologies and typically adapt to the working practices of our customers so that the expected management information, reporting, risk management and usual toolbox items are applied.

We have successfully completed KT with client permanent staff coupled with ensuring all our Statements of Work have mandatory KT delivered through workshops and by proxy learning such as peer reviews etc. We also capture and record minor training needs analysis during stand-ups, retrospectives, and quality assurance gates. • How the quality assurance and performance testing works: Broadlight delivers a range of QA and performance testing services are delivered by our experienced testing professionals. Services include: Agile test strategy, Test tooling optimisation, Automation test strategy and implementation. Broadlight delivers our work through sophisticated pipelines with associated expert ways of working. This includes DoD and Acceptance criteria in stories, high levels of automated Unit and integration tests, automated pen-testing, end to end testing and mechanisms for testing production and feature flag releases. For IaC engineering our guiding principle is that IaC should be viewed as any other software development activity. Where possible we implement relevant testing processes to validate the IaC. The importance here is to build in quality at source and early in the process, as recommended with any code project. We strongly recommended building a Test Driven Development (TDD) approach which provides greater quality and maintainability of IaC from the outset. As with good software development techniques, we would apply a 4 eyes principle: decisions or transactions MUST be approved by at least two people. The controlling mechanism is used to facilitate delegation of authority and increase transparency facilitated by electronic approvals and workflows in a CI\CD system.
