Little Green Button is a software-based service and requires compatible desktop or mobile devices to operate. Desktop functionality requires a powered-on device, and mobile functionality requires the app to be installed and notifications enabled with connectivity.
While alerts can be raised offline in supported configurations, some features such as reporting, administration, and remote notifications require an internet connection.
The service operates independently of other IT, clinical, telephony, or building management systems and does not require integration with them. Multiple availability zones and a zero planned downtime process help us achieve an average 99.9% uptime. - System requirements

-
Little Green Button allows buyers to customise the service to reflect their organisation’s environment, risks, and operational needs.
Administrators can configure alert types, escalation groups, and alert patterns, including who receives alerts, the order of escalation, and how alerts are presented. Alert presentation can be customised to support discreet or visible notification through configurable audio and visual settings.
Locations, teams, and user roles can be defined to ensure alerts are routed appropriately. Receive-only users can be configured to support mass notification without raising alerts. Mobile settings, including optional GPS location sharing, can be enabled or disabled per user.
Customisation is carried out through a secure, web-based management portal. Access is role-based, ensuring only authorised administrators can make configuration changes. End users cannot alter system-level settings but can interact with the service based on permissions assigned to them.
Scaling
- Independence of resources
- Little Green Button is delivered using a cloud-based architecture designed to scale automatically in response to demand. The service operates across multiple availability zones, allowing capacity to increase as usage grows and helping maintain consistent performance. Resources are managed to prevent activity from one customer impacting others, with load management supporting periods of high usage. The service is continuously monitored to identify capacity or performance issues, and scaling occurs without manual intervention.

Availability and resilience
- Guaranteed availability
-
Little Green Button operates with a target of high availability, and we design our service to achieve consistent uptime. We do not provide a formal, contractual service level agreement (SLA) specifying minimum uptime percentages or financial remedies for unavailability.
Customers are responsible for their own connectivity and device availability, and third-party dependencies may affect overall performance. The subscription price includes access and support; there are no automatic refunds or credits tied to service availability under the standard terms. Where bespoke SLAs are agreed for specific customers, these are documented separately as part of commercial agreement terms. - Approach to resilience
- Available on request.
- Outage reporting
-
A public status page is available and provides visibility of the operational status of key service components. The status page is maintained by the Little Green Button team and is updated during active incidents and following resolution, allowing customers to check for known issues without contacting support.
Email notifications are used to communicate service incidents where appropriate, including updates during an outage and confirmation once services are restored. In addition to automated notifications, the team may issue proactive communications directly to customers where an incident has a material impact on service use.
At present, outage information is not exposed via a public API. Customers can continue to raise support requests via web chat, email ticketing, or telephone during incidents to receive guidance or updates from the support team.
