Aligned with MAC 4.1 and 4.2, Moorhouse is committed to being carbon neutral, working towards net zero greenhouse gas emissions and offsetting emissions we cannot prevent against a verified carbon standard.
Our ISO14001 certified Environmental Management System (EMS) allows us to manage environmental responsibilities in a systematic manner. We welcome the opportunity to support our clients in developing or improving their own EMS, providing this as a value-add service.
We continue to encourage remote working for staff, and the use of non-motorised transport / public transport where possible. We also manage our operations to continually improve energy performance. For example, our stationary supplier only supplies goods in reusable containers and our office catering supplier delivers food in reusable wooden boxes by bicycle.
Some specific activities include:
Recycling of additional waste streams, like printer toners, electrical items, and light bulbs.
Paperless working is encouraged, with a ‘follow me’ printing system in place defaulted to double-sided to reduce paper consumption. Our paper supply contains recycled content.
Repair of broken chairs rather than replacement.
All office lights are LEDs, thereby lasting longer, reducing waste and energy consumption.
A key part of influencing stakeholders is ensuring regular, engaging, impactful events and communications. Education is a significant element to influencing all stakeholder groups to adopt improved environmental practices; using a variety of channels ensures all stakeholders can engage. Examples of engagement mechanisms we use to influence effective stewardship of the environment include:
‘Lunch and learns’ – informal, informative non-mandatory educational events
Team away days / events with a sustainability focus
Communications campaigns, e.g., newsletters, facts of the week, social media posts.
Formal training and awareness – new joiners must learn about our environmental policy
Participation in or attendance of global and national events, including conferences, networking and community events, e.g., Sustainability Week, COP24 etc.

As we grow, we are using this recruitment opportunity to prioritise people who face barriers to employment, running our recruitment campaigns in line with the Mayor's Good Work Standard.
We have had great success with apprentices in our Marketing and Finance departments, filling substantive roles. On our paid internship scheme, we have offered both school and university leavers the opportunity to work on real client projects. We seek, where appropriate, to involve new interns and apprentices on client work, providing invaluable experience and on-the-job expertise to develop their futures.
We recognise the importance of addressing skill gaps and creating a safe environment for individuals to learn, improve and progress. The Moorhouse Academy is an award-nominated training programme designed for consultants, but increasingly offered more widely as well. Modules include:
Change management
Programme management
Business case development
Agile mindset
Our charity partner, The School of Hard Knocks, delivers life-changing programmes across the UK, helping unemployed adults to find and sustain employment, and school children at risk of exclusion to re-engage with education. For those who have lost their jobs because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Moorhouse Academy is hosting an online, high impact version of their course. We recently hosted an assessment centre and CV review event for them, helping support young people and returners to work with appropriate coaching and skills development.
In our supply chain, for specialist requirements our team cannot satisfy, we bring in SMEs or VCSEs from our established ecosystem of partners, providing breadth of capability and expertise, supporting business creation, and ensuring diversity of suppliers. We use reputable employment agencies to source labour, verifying the practices of any new agency prior to accepting resources. We have zero tolerance towards slavery and human trafficking and expect all organisations in our supply chain to comply with our values. - Wellbeing

Wellbeing
Health and wellbeing are extremely important to Moorhouse, and we have implemented a range of initiatives to support the mental and physical wellbeing of our people.
The Moorhouse Health & Wellbeing team was founded in 2018 with the goal of promoting a productive and sustainable working culture across the business. Recent achievements include running our first off-site ‘Retreat’ in February 2020, bringing together the whole company for a terrarium making class, breathwork session, and an interactive workshop led by a leading psychologist sharing the latest in cognitive behavioural science to help us all deal with stress a little more effectively.
20 of our colleagues are certified as Mental Health First Aiders and we also all have access to an employee assistance programme which includes, among other resources, 24/7 access to counselling from qualified therapists. Promotion of physical health is also extremely important to us as well with our staff having access to many items as part of our overall benefits package, such as 50% off a gym membership.
As a firm, we strongly believe in the ‘right to disconnect’ from work. At a recent all company event, our Health and Wellbeing Lead ran breakout group sessions to discuss how we can switch-off from work, as well as sharing different tools and techniques to try and help with this.
Finally, in February 2022 we were awarded with a Great Place to Work award and all our colleagues automatically enrolled into private medical insurance and life insurance.
