- The migration process is planned and developed specifically for each project. Software tools are used to automate many aspects of data transfer. It is often a good practice to take the opportunity of performing validation routines to highlight errors and omissions in existing data sets. The procedures are tested fully before the final migration of live data to the new system and suitable backups retained. This work may also be undertaken in phases if appropriate.
