Planning

- How the planning service works
-
We’ll start with a kickoff meeting to understand the infrastructure, responsibilities and processes required to support your project.
If your Drupal site was developed by another supplier and you want Chicken to do ongoing support and maintenance of that site, we will conduct a site audit to assess the site's health and security. This is usually around 10 hours but may take longer depending on the complexity of the codebase.
We strive to be a pro-active partner, we become part of your team and take a collaborative approach to planning, not only at the beginning of a project but with regular team calls and workshop days throughout the project lifecycle to stay on target of your goals and vision for the website. - Planning service works with specific services

- How the setup or migration service works
- We can assist in migrating your LocalGov Drupal (LGD) website to cloud-based Drupal hosting providers, if required. After doing the site audit we will understand the site's setup and be able to identify areas that need attention, potential security issues, and any integrations that might need collaboration with third-parties. This will allow us to recommend and assist with a hosting provider.

We follow Drupal and LocalGov Drupal best practices and try to align ourselves closely with the Technology Code of Practice.
We have a suite of comprehensive unit tests for automated testing where code manipulates data and processes for reviewing and merging code, including continuous integration and continuous delivery methods.

- How the support service works
-
As long as your site is in Git version control and we have access to your servers via SSH then we can support your website.
Support can come in a variety of guises, answering questions, investigating new features and adding the enhancements, providing training to new staff members, resolving bugs, improving workflow and features you already have.
All support queries are answered via the online ticketing system but can also be asked via email or webchat. This allows us to keep a record and backlog of work to be completed. We typically work through this backlog in a kanban method allowing you to take control of your support hours.

Fighting climate change
We’re fighting climate change by proactively using public transport when travelling, or electric vehicles if owned. We have a cycle to work scheme. Recycling and/or composting of any paper used, although digital notes are encouraged. Light and plug sockets in office areas are on timers and all electrical equipment turned off when not in use. All team members use 100% Renewable energy providers - incentivising solar panels in homes. Fossil free pension plans with PensionBee for Directors. We ensure that all office catering is vegetarian.
Chicken as a member of Sustainable Web Manifesto we’re improving web performance to lower carbon emissions on the web. 100% of our websites are hosted on green hosting and where we can choose to host, green hosting will always come first.
We participate in the Client Disclosure practice - and reveal the percentage of our company turnover by industry category, including fossil fuel and other high carbon clients.
This year our percentage of revenue from these industries has always been zero.
In our sustainability policy we've started to monitor and report our carbon footprint (Scope 1 and 2 emissions) to help us reach net zero carbon emissions.Covid-19 recovery
Chicken was founded after Covid-19 was at its highest but we’re aware that it isn’t over and other viruses can also be debilitating to people. As part of our sustainability and wellness policies we encourage working from home, and not working if you’re unwell as it isn’t productive or safe for people to do so. We understand the effects of Long Covid and other autoimmune diseases encourage people to work when and how it suits them.Tackling economic inequality
We are constantly reviewing our supply chain and moving to the most environmentally efficient suppliers where possible in order for us to keep our services of high quality to us, our clients and those affected by our services.
When making websites, we aim to make sure they’re as accessible as possible. This helps with reducing economic inequality by ensuring that users of the website with old or shared devices are still able to access the information they need.Equal opportunity
We employ team members based solely on ability and experience, regardless of gender, race, religion or disability.
Including our regular contractors, our team is 50% male and 50% female.Wellbeing
Chicken exists because employee wellbeing is a priority for our business values. We strongly believe that people do their best work when they are feeling their best. We do this by being distributed, having flexible office hours. Family and personal time comes before work. We encourage walking as a problem solving method.
