Fighting climate change

As a firm with both local and global reach, we have a clear role to play in tackling climate change and helping preserve the world’s resources.

We have made a series of climate related commitments:

We will have a sustainable supply chain: Over the last year, we have also enhanced our sustainable procurement practices by implementing a comprehensive supplier code of conduct, introducing a sustainable procurement policy and increasing the integration of ESG considerations in our supplier relationships.

We will reduce our reliance on paper through digitalising our processes: we’ve reduced our paper use by 85% for a second year running

We will be single use plastic free: To support this and other commitments, we have an Environmental Policy, which reflects our commitment to doing everything we can to reduce our environmental impact and help our people lead more sustainable lives.

We will become a low energy business by improving the energy consumption of our real estate and by reducing our travel emissions.: 62% of our offices are using 100% renewable electricity.

We will reduce the amount of waste that we produce: 85% of our offices in the UK are zero waste to landfill.

Our team will have the knowledge and be empowered to make sustainable decisions: Mazars runs a group-wide Sustainability Foundation course to equip all team members with core sustainability knowledge. Across our last financial year, UK team members spent 4,170 hours completing the training.

Mazars Group will be Net Zero by 2050: Our targets have been submitted to the SBTi, and we have set out our path to achieving Net Zero in our Carbon Reduction Plan.

In addition, our ESG agenda is amplified through our sustainability services, which help businesses manage their ESG-related topics to unlock a wealth of opportunities and contribute to healthy ecosystems.

Tackling economic inequality

We are fully committed to addressing economic inequality through comprehensive initiatives across our supply chain and employment practices.

In our supply chain management, we prioritise inclusivity through our 'SME – Ways Of Working' policy, recognising the diverse needs and capabilities of businesses. Our Sustainable Procurement Policy underscores our dedication to mitigating environmental and social impacts, with a focus on lifecycle perspectives for goods and services. We evaluate suppliers based on risk, integrating additional ESG criteria while ensuring flexibility, particularly for smaller organisations still developing their policies.

Regarding employment, fostering social mobility and inclusion is a core focus. Our unique approach to early careers engagement involves extensive efforts to upskill young people nationwide. In FY23, we hosted 10 employability skills sessions, with 5 more planned in FY24, often reaching up to 200 individuals per session. We've expanded internships and work experience programmes, offering 85 opportunities to underrepresented talent, including initiatives like the 10,000 Black Interns and Access Accountancy.

Additionally, through partnerships with charities like IntoUniversity, we've engaged 350 young people so far, with more than 15 volunteering opportunities planned in the next 6 months. As part of this partnership, we've also introduced mentoring programmes to support young individuals through their university journey. We are aiming to have at least 10 mentor volunteers across the UK.

In FY23, we had 421 new trainees, including 284 apprentices. Our tailored support extends from their first days with local office "buddies" to ongoing professional skills development and well-being support.

Our commitment to addressing economic inequality is reflected in our national recognition for talent programmes, including being ranked 29th in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers for 2023, 83rd in the Rate My Apprenticeship Top 100 rankings for 2023, and 94th in The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers for 2023.

Equal opportunity

Mazars’ commitment to social value aligns seamlessly with our core values, prioritising inclusion, having respect for others, and creating equal opportunities for all. We implement comprehensive strategies to address inequality in employment and pay within our workforce.
- Initiatives such as disclosure campaigns encourage individuals to share their diversity profiles
- We regularly review our diversity data across the firm to check progress in relation to targets such as our commitment to the HMT Women in Finance Charter and use them to inform future actions and initiatives.
- We also have gender, ethnicity and Black talent targets, the details of which can be found on our external webpage.
- We have made several external commitments alongside our targets as we believe these will support us in embedding a culture of inclusion, these include commitments to Valuable 500, Neurodiversity in Business, Workplace Menopause Pledge, Stonewall Diversity Champions programme, Social Mobility Pledge and the Charter for Black Talent.
- We also participate in several initiatives such 10,000 Black Interns, 10,000 Able interns and Access Accountancy to support us in creating a diverse pipeline.
- As well as the above, we publish our gender and ethnicity pay gap report. This report allows us to see where we have and are making progress, and where there is room for us to improve.
- Our extensive network of diversity and inclusion groups, including those focused on gender, ethnicity, disability, faith and social mobility, creates a sense of belonging and cultural allyship. The Inclusion Alliance, established in 2021, facilitates collaboration between network leads and senior leaders, ensuring a holistic approach to supporting individuals from various backgrounds.

By actively engaging with your organisation, we aim to identify meaningful ways to deliver social value, leveraging our track record and ongoing efforts in promoting equal opportunities.

Wellbeing

Mazars is a purpose driven firm with an unwavering commitment to our people. People are at the heart of our development, and we strive to build an inclusive culture in which our people thrive and our values endure. The wellbeing of our team is our number one priority.

We want to create a workplace where all team members can reach their full potential. As a firm we take a holistic approach to wellbeing and appreciate that factors outside the workplace may impact how we feel at work. Our approach centres around the whole person and considers our physical, mental, social and financial wellbeing, as all of these shape how we feel.
- Mental health first aiders: We have over 30 mental health first aiders who’ve been trained by Mental Health First Aid England. They offer support for team members and run monthly wellbeing drop-in sessions.
- Wellbeing monthly drop in sessions: Hosted by Mental Health First Aiders, open to all. These are a safe space for team members to discuss mental health concerns and to share stories and tips. The sessions often feature expert special guests and interviews with senior leaders on how they look after their mental health and wellbeing.
- Calm : We offer all team members in the UK free access to the calm app. In line with our wellbeing strategy, we want to support our people by giving them the tools to encourage positive mental health and wellbeing.
