The service interface is a browser-based plus desktop application environment. Users launch Cursor (desktop IDE) built on VS Code, use its UI for code editing, prompts, AI chat panel, project navigation, settings and team dashboards. Admins access web consoles for team management, usage analytics and governance controls.

What users can and can't do using the API
Anysphere primarily provides APIs for service consumption and integration, rather than platform setup. Users cannot use the API to perform administrative setup of the client application (e.g., installing the IDE, managing local preferences) or manage user accounts/billing. The primary limitation is that the API is functional (code processing) and not administrative (platform management).

The code is not stored by the Cursor service, especially when Private Mode is active. Availability and resilience

Guaranteed availability
The core Cursor IDE is locally installed and available whenever the user's device is running. The AI Backend Service is covered by an SLA typically guaranteed at 99.9% uptime for Enterprise customers, excluding scheduled maintenance. This is the availability of the AI models necessary for code generation. If this guaranteed availability is not met in a calendar month, Enterprise customers may be eligible for service credits calculated as a percentage of the monthly service fee, as detailed in the master subscription agreement. Standard subscription tiers generally rely on best-effort availability without a formal, financially-backed SLA.
Approach to resilience
The AI backend is hosted on a hyperscale cloud provider utilizing a multi-zone architecture to ensure redundancy and fault tolerance. The service employs load balancing and auto-scaling to distribute processing across multiple instances. Data replication across Availability Zones ensures that no single datacentre failure can cause permanent data loss. The client-side application is resilient to brief connectivity outages by maintaining the user's state locally. Core AI models are called via a robust API gateway designed to automatically retry requests, enhancing the overall resilience of the AI code generation process.
Outage reporting
Anysphere maintains a public status dashboard (often via a status.cursor.com domain) that reports the real-time operational status of its core AI services and API. Users can monitor this dashboard for any service interruptions or planned maintenance. Users can often subscribe to this page to receive email alerts regarding service health. The client application also displays status indicators and provides in-app notifications if the connection to the AI backend is disrupted. Enterprise customers may receive direct, high-priority communication regarding critical incidents via dedicated support channels.
