- What the ISO/IEC 27001 doesn’t cover
-
Specific Technical Controls: ISO 27001 requires us to assess our own risks and implement controls accordingly. However, it does not prescribe specific technologies or detailed technical controls for specific systems.
Operational Procedures: ISO 27001 does not provide detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) or specifics about their implementation. This underscores the need for organisations to independently develop these procedures, as ISO 27001 does not offer a comprehensive guide.
Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery: ISO 27001 must provide a detailed business continuity or disaster recovery planning framework.
Compliance with Specific Regulations: ISO 27001 helps us implement a broad framework for compliance with various laws and regulations, but it doesn't cover specific regulatory requirements (like GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
Sector-Specific Requirements: ISO 27001 is generic and designed to apply to any organisation, regardless of its type, size, or nature. Therefore, it does not address sector-specific security issues or requirements, which organisations must consider separately in specific sectors like finance, healthcare, or public services.
Human Resource Security Post-Employment: The standard covers aspects of HR security before and during employment. However, post-employment obligations and controls (like ongoing access rights management after an employee leaves) should be extensively detailed. - ISO 28000:2007 certification
