Cloud Solution Design Hazard Assessment

The service assesses cloud programme risk from (a) design features and (b) design gaps. Additionally it considers risks from (c) the quality of design artefacts and (d) the operation of the design practice. Independent design analysis is combined with structured design walkthrough session to assess the risk. Issues are catalogued.

Features

  • Mapping of design features to primary requirements
  • Identification of threatening situation and scenarios
  • Identification of plausible anomalous operation of the design
  • Cause, effect, consequence analysis
  • Design gap identification
  • Design strength and ambiguity assessment
  • Detailed review of critical design elements
  • Non-functional considerations assessment
  • Coherence of end-to-end design integrity
  • Organisational and cultural design risk appraisal

Benefits

  • Surface and track design issue early
  • Make design status measurable and managable, rather than opaue
  • Avoid programme disruption from hiddne design misalignment
  • Identify critical details that have not been addressed
  • Address happy-path design bias
  • Ensure non-functional design omissions are addressed
  • Identify fundamental challenges early
  • Avoid rework costs and delays
  • Avoid quality compromises due to late breaking issues
  • Better design management reduces conflict

How the quality assurance and performance testing works
Quality assurance of design, as opposed to by proxy when testing or using the implementation, brings major benefits to a cloud programme. It improves long term quality, issues can be addressed systematically, in priority order, at the design stage rather than by tactical fixes on an implementation. It reduces the cost of rework, both direct and opportunity cost. It reduces conflict across delivery organisations. By ensuring the design has considered atypical scenarios and non-functional issues the overall quality of experience of the delivered solution is increased and the operational cost reduced.
