Getting started
Users start using VMware Cloud Foundation on GCVE through vendor-provided resources. VMware and Google supply product documentation, online guides, and knowledge bases covering platform setup, configuration, and operation. Online training and learning resources are available through VMware and Google training services.

Xtravirt can provide optional onboarding assistance, knowledge transfer, training, and professional services if purchased separately. These services are not included as part of the licence-only offering.

End-of-contract data extraction
Customer data is hosted on Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) infrastructure within the customer’s Google Cloud environment. All workloads, virtual machines, and associated data continue to reside within the customer’s GCVE project and storage throughout the contract.

When the contract ends, customers can export or migrate data and workloads using VMware- and Google-provided tooling, including GCVE-supported export and migration functions. No supplier-managed data extraction is required. Customers retain full access to their data and environments up to termination.

Data retention, export periods, and tooling options follow GCVE documentation and Google Cloud terms.
End-of-contract process
At the end of the contract, the customer’s right to use VMware Cloud Foundation software licences ends in line with the agreed licence terms. Customer data and workloads remain hosted within the customer’s Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) environment, which continues to operate under Google Cloud terms unless terminated separately by the customer.

The contract price includes the VMware Cloud Foundation software licence and the associated VMware support entitlement for the contract term. It does not include service transition, migration, or operational activities.

Additional costs may apply for licence renewal, expanded support tiers, professional services, training, or assistance with migration or platform transition, if purchased separately.

Availability and resilience

Guaranteed availability
The availability of Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) is covered by a formal service level agreement (SLA) from Google Cloud VMware Engine. GCVE SLAs specify monthly uptime percentages for private cloud clusters and management interfaces. For example, with appropriate cluster configuration, uptime objectives include:

≥ 99.99 % uptime for clusters with 5–32 nodes and FTT = 2 or more

≥ 99.9 % uptime for clusters with 3–4 nodes and FTT = 1

≥ 99.9 % availability for management interfaces

If Google does not meet the SLA and the customer meets its obligations, the customer is eligible for financial credits against future bills as defined in the GCVE SLA.

This service provides software licences only; no separate availability guarantee is provided by the supplier. Availability outcomes for VMware Cloud Foundation software features depend on GCVE infrastructure configuration and customer design.
Approach to resilience
Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) runs on Google Cloud’s global infrastructure, which is designed for resilience through multiple layers of redundancy in power, networking, and hardware. Google Cloud datacentres use redundant systems and geographic separation to minimise the impact of individual failures.

VMware Cloud Foundation software supports clustering, fault tolerance, and workload restart capabilities that contribute to platform resilience when deployed appropriately. Resilience outcomes are dependent on customer configuration choices, such as cluster size, availability zones, and backup/disaster recovery designs.

Outage and service status for Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) are reported through Google Cloud status and support channels:

Public dashboard: Google Cloud Service Health Dashboard shows current GCVE service status and incidents.

API: Service health and monitoring information can be accessed via Google Cloud APIs and monitoring tools.

Email alerts: Google Cloud status notifications and alerts can be delivered to customers through configured email alerts or cloud monitoring notifications.

For VMware Cloud Foundation software issues, status and incident information is available through VMware (Broadcom) support channels and portals.

This service provides software licences only; there is no separate supplier-operated outage reporting for the licence offering. Status and notifications are provided through the vendors’ published mechanisms.

Different organisations are kept apart through isolation provided by Google Cloud VMware Engine and VMware Cloud Foundation.

Each customer is provisioned a dedicated GCVE private cloud with isolated compute, storage, and networking resources. VMware virtualisation enforces separation at the hypervisor level, while NSX provides logical network segmentation and traffic isolation.   • Mission: Break down barriers to opportunity: By reforming our childcare and education systems, to make sure there is no class ceiling on the ambitions of young people in Britain

    Policy Outcome 7: Creating a pipeline of opportunities: For the contract workforce, reducing barriers to entry for under-represented groups.

    • Understanding of issues relating to entering the contract workforce
    • Advertising, promotional and outreach activities designed to raise awareness of the offer to reach the target cohort
  • Mission: Build an NHS fit for the future: That is there when people need it; with fewer lives lost to the biggest killers; in a fairer Britain, where everyone lives well for longer.

    Policy Outcome 8: Increasing productivity through physical and mental wellbeing: In the supply chain and communities in the relevant area.

    • Understanding of issues relating to health and wellbeing, including physical and mental health, in the contract workforce
    • Inclusive and accessible recruitment practices, development practices and retention policies that support-focused activities including those provided in the Guide for line managers on recruiting, managing and developing which support people with a disability or health condition
