The EDR service retains endpoint and network telemetry for 7 days, EDR Detections in the Sophos Central Data Lake for 90 days (extendable to 1 year) and EDR Cases for 2 years. After these time frames the data is deleted. Additionally, Sophos will store licensed endpoint telemetry and network telemetry from licensed XG firewalls using Central Firewall reporting in Sophos Central for 7 days, or a longer timeframe based on data retention option the customer has purchased. This data is available to be used by the customer to perform their own queries and investigations independently from the MDR, or Rapid Response services. All customer data is deleted upon termination of the service.
Upon termination of the EDR service, access to the customer interface in Sophos Central is disabled after a 10-day grace period. After this period, the data will be permanently deleted and unrecoverable.
All data held in the Sophos Central platform and data lake is available for export manually or via API (as detailed in previous questions). MDR cases information is also detailed within the Sophos Central platform for obtaining if required. - Documentation accessibility standard

- Service interface

- User support accessibility
- None or don’t know
- Description of service interface
- The Sophos service interface is a secure, web based management console (Sophos Central) accessed via standard browsers over HTTPS. It provides role based administration, dashboards, reporting and policy management for all licensed Sophos services (for example endpoint, server, firewall, email, mobile, ZTNA, MDR/XDR). Administrators can configure security policies, review alerts, investigate threats, run remote actions on devices and integrate with third party systems via documented APIs and SIEM connectors, with SSO and multi tenant support where required.
- Accessibility standards
- None or don’t know
- Description of accessibility
- Users interact with Sophos XDR through the Sophos Central web console. They review dashboards and alerts, open XDR detections as cases, and follow guided investigation workflows. Analysts run Live Discover queries for threat hunting and use Live Response for secure remote remediation on endpoints and servers. Admins manage policies, data sources and integrations, while reports, notifications and APIs provide visibility and automation into existing SOC, SIEM or SOAR tools.
- Accessibility testing
- Sophos has undertaken formal accessibility testing (including third-party audits and manual testing with screen readers and speech-recognition tools) for some products, especially mobile apps. However, there is no publicly available, product-wide statement detailing assistive-technology testing for the entire Sophos Central interface.
- API
- Yes
- What users can and can't do using the API
-
Sophos EDR APIs focus on integration, automation and data access.
1. Setting up the service
Users can’t fully provision Sophos EDR via API alone. Licensing, initial tenant creation, and most core onboarding steps (enabling EDR, deploying agents, adding firewalls/email/cloud integrations) are initiated securely in the Sophos Central web console. APIs are then used mainly to pull data and automate workflows once EDR is active.
2. Making changes through the API
APIs allow users to query alerts, detections, cases, audit logs, and asset inventories, and to push some actions into existing workflows (for example closing alerts, updating cases, triggering scans or isolations via integrations, sending data to SIEM/SOAR, or managing certain objects like firewall rules via product specific APIs). They are best suited for automation and SOC integration rather than full configuration management.
3. Limitations
Not all Central / EDR configuration is exposed by API. Many policy settings, integrations, and role based admin functions must still be managed in the web console. There are rate limits, authentication via API credentials, and scope restrictions that prevent APIs from bypassing normal security controls or acting outside the tenant’s permissions.

What buyers can customise
• Security policies for endpoint, server, firewall, email, mobile, ZTNA, etc.
• Alert thresholds, notification rules and automated response actions.
• XDR queries (custom Live Discover SQL), case workflows and watchlists.
• Role based access, admin scopes and multi tenant / partner hierarchy.
• Integrations and data flows via APIs, SIEM/SOAR connectors and webhooks.
• Dashboards, reports (filters, schedules) and device / user group structure.
Scaling
- Independence of resources
- Sophos EDR is hosted on AWS cloud. All services leverage AWS auto scaling to automatically scale based on workload. The platform is actively managed to response time SLOs which are actively monitored. In the infrequent case where a workload approaches an SLO threshold alerts are raised, triggering a response from our site reliability engineering team.

- Metrics types
- All data held in the EDR Data lake can be queried. Sophos EDR provides operational and security service metrics via Sophos Central dashboards and reports. This includes endpoint health and protection status (for example, health state reporting), alert volumes and severity, and detection numbers and trends in the Threat Analysis Center.

Availability and resilience
- Guaranteed availability
- Service level targets are documented at https://docs.sophos.com/support/help/en-us/services-guide/level-targets/index.html
- Approach to resilience
- Sophos Central is designed for high resilience through cloud-native, highly available architecture hosted on major public cloud platforms like AWS and Azure that dynamically scale with demand. Each customer account is region-locked and leverages replication across multiple data centers (availability zones) to ensure seamless failover if infrastructure fails. Within regions, services run in auto-scaling groups behind load balancers to handle load spikes and maintain uptime. Databases are triplicated with clustered replication, so failures don’t affect availability, and hourly snapshots protect against data loss. Sophos also uses DDoS mitigation, secure segmentation, and hardened infrastructure that can be rebuilt without loss, enhancing operational continuity.
- Outage reporting
- Scheduled outages are notified in advance via a banner notification with the Sophos Central management console. Unscheduled outages are notified via email alerts.

Change management governs updates and configuration changes, while risk management identifies, assesses, and mitigates security threats. Business continuity and disaster recovery plans ensure service availability, and supplier security requirements protect third-party interactions. Regular audits, monitoring, logging, and continuous security awareness training reinforce compliance and resilience.
