How the planning service works
The decision to move operations to the Cloud and/or shift towards a more product-based technology operating model (e.g. merging development and operational capabilities into “DevOps” and forming multi-disciplinary teams for technology product development that merge traditional business and IT roles) presents businesses with both challenges and opportunities. The challenges include the sourcing of capability and third-party assistance; contracting and incentivising the right behaviour; training and upskilling your people; the legislative and regulatory implications of infrastructure potentially housed overseas; the transition to very new and different ways of working and governance; the provision of new tools and techniques, methods and standards; and the sheer scale of work involved in a wholesale cloud migration.

We can help you improve and transform your Cloud IT function and capabilities. This can take in changes across a number of key areas. It often involves structural changes that enable IT to get closer to the organisation, and support core strategic objectives. It could mean major changes in the way Cloud IT products are delivered, for example setting up IT as a shared service or changing your sourcing strategy.

Fighting climate change

We are committed to reducing the negative environmental impacts of our own activities. So far, we have completed a comprehensive measurement of our carbon footprint, which covered Scopes 1, 2 and 3, i.e. both direct and indirect emissions (such as those that arise from working from home and the products and services we buy). We have established a target for net zero by 2042 and are currently executing our carbon reduction programme to achieve this goal. We are committed to:

Reducing Environmental Impacts: We actively work to reduce the negative environmental impacts of our activities, particularly in areas such as office and events energy use, water use, food, waste, transport, travel and staff commuting.

Recycling: We promote recycling by separating and recycling all office waste in line with building recycling policies.
Sustainable Practices: We prioritise sustainable practices, including the elimination of bottled water through an in-house chilling and carbonating system, implementing a 'Local Suppliers First' policy, and purchasing environmentally friendly office and cleaning supplies.

Energy Efficiency: We invest in energy-saving measures, such as installing lighting sensors and encouraging the use of the Barclay’s Cycle hire for corporate travel.

Supplier Engagement: Consideration of environmental and ethical factors when choosing suppliers and services for our business operations, as well as collaboration with suppliers and contractors to reduce the environmental impacts of our business activities and events, both on-site and off-site.

Client work: We work with clients to establish their vision and strategy, effectively mobilise and deliver transformational change, embed sustainability improvements by gathering buy-in with stakeholders and improve quality by bringing Berkeley’s full breadth of experience and expertise to bear.

We are constantly reviewing our practices based on continual improvement and are keen to explore new initiatives. Our Environmental impact is also a topic on the agenda at our regular discussion forums.

Equal opportunity

Berkeley is committed to creating an environment which embraces diversity and offers equal opportunity to all staff. Diversity and equality are important to Berkeley and is seen as essential to the future growth and success of our firm. We have a genuine commitment to embed Diversity and Inclusion into the culture, values, and processes of the firm. We are committed to:

Equal Opportunity: We do not discriminate based on age, gender, ethnic origin, disability, sexual orientation, faith, gender reassignment, marital/civil partnership status, or any other irrelevant factor in the workplace. Recruitment and career progression are solely based on an individual's ability and suitability for the work.

Cultivating a Diverse Workforce: Internally, we celebrate the diversity of our team, recognising that diverse backgrounds and perspectives lead to fresh ideas and innovative solutions. Externally, we aim to cater to a broad range of cultures, preferences, and abilities.

Flexible Working: We offer flexible working arrangements to support our staff in achieving work-life balance, accommodating their diverse needs and responsibilities outside of work.

Inclusive Environment: We provide an inclusive work environment where every staff member is valued and respected. Discrimination, bullying, and harassment are strictly prohibited, and we encourage all employees to play a part in maintaining this inclusive culture.

A comprehensive grievance procedure is in place to address any issues related to discrimination, harassment, bullying, or victimisation in the workplace. While we do not set diversity and inclusion quotas or targets, we maintain records of staff and applicants' diversity details to measure the impact of our policies and ensure fairness and equality in all HR procedures. This information is used solely for equal opportunities monitoring purposes.
