Getting started
Set up of Tableau ranges from as little as 5 minutes (subscribe to and register with Tableau Online) to 1-2 hours for installing Tableau Server on your organisation's existing hardware inside a firewall with existing visibility of the source data) to 2-3 days (new hardware, high availability, outside firewall).
Tableau is very much about self service analytics so there is a strong focus on enablement and empowerment.
Tableau has a wealth of free online lessons that allow self paced training.
InterWorks has a team of accredited Tableau trainers who can deliver official Tableau training either onsite to your team or individuals can attend our regular training courses (usually held in London).
Full, current documentation for Tableau Server and Desktop is online and free.

End-of-contract data extraction
Tableau Server serves up analytics by either a) having a live connection to data held elsewhere or b) queries data held elsewhere to create a small snapshotted extract of that data. In both cases the source data stays in situ and is independent of the Tableau install.
This means that at the end of the contract period the source data remains in its source location and whatever data Tableau Server has taken snapshots of would be deleted along with the install (which has no effect on the source data).
Tableau Server has no native ability to edit or delete any of the source data from which it generates its analytics.
End-of-contract process
At the end of the contract the licences expire, users are no longer able to log in and access the service. If the hardware providing the service is a cloud service such as Amazon Web Services then the client can elect to stop running this server and this instance would also be deleted.
There are no additional costs for an organisation wishing to end a contract.

The experience of the consumption of dashboards and analytics via mobile browser or desktop browser is the same. We offer guidance on optimising dashboard layout so that they are still effective on smaller mobile devices.

Description of customisation
At an individual dashboard level, users can (subject to permissions) edit existing dashboards and publish their own versions of previously created content. Users can also filter existing content and save that custom view as their own. Users can subscribe to specific views on a schedule of their choosing.
Overall look and feel: clients can code their own wrapper in which to embed their analytics applying their own imagery, CSS etc (admin level)
Functionality: clients can use the APIs to create additional bespoke functionality that Tableau does not deliver natively (admin level)
Custom portals: we have developed custom portals that do both of the above out of the box, providing a rapid, affordable way of providing a look and feel that is consistent with that of the organisation as well as a range of often-requested additional functions with the flexibility to add more relatively easily. (admin level)

Independence of resources
The first step is the choice of environment (dedicated on premise or cloud server, hybrid or public) which controls the range of possibilities for resource contention. Outside of the environment decision Tableau Server has a good range of built in dashboards for monitoring performance.
InterWorks also has its own additional monitoring solution which provides broader analytics on usage of the processors, RAM, disk, network, processes, query times, user contention so that if there is a performance impact administrators can see exactly what the environment was like at that specific point in time and provide the most effective resolution.

Given our role as data analysts we take data security very seriously. We do have an internal security governance policy but this is not currently one that is accredited to an external standard. We have never had a security incident or breach.
Information security policies and processes
We have a detailed IT Policy (Security and Internet) which we can make available on demand. The key points of which are:
Roles and responsibilities - the policies are established, monitored and breaches investigated by the directors, but at a core level everyone has a responsibility for security.
Monitoring - we reserve the right to monitor employee use of IT resources, tracking and remote wipe software is installed on all devices
