Fighting climate change
Sustainability is high on Cyber Security Consultant’s agenda, with a commitment to be Net-Zero by 2050. One of the ways in which we promote environmental sustainability throughout our business is by regularly evaluating the environmental impact of our activities, products and services, continually implementing our Environmental Management Systems that are in line with ISO14001.
We have a strong commitment towards recycling and we encourage our clients to do the same, producing sustainability performance plans at the outset of the contract.
We maximise low carbon travel through low-emission vehicles, tracking the carbon footprint of our vehicles and promoting virtual meetings where possible to negate the need to travel.
We also promote good environmental practice training for staff, subcontractors, client staff and any wider customers on energy use awareness and pollution prevention.
All carbon reporting processes are subject to internal and external audits, using secondary data sources to verify, providing our clients with confidence in our processes and methodologies to address our infrastructure, documenting evidence against carbon management KPIs and reduction programme.Covid-19 recovery
Covid-19 had minimal impact on the way in which Cyber Security Defence Consultants have operated, opting to work remotely wherever possible.
We operated as normal, with our main focus being on ensuring that all colleagues are safe and well. This has included offering continued support to our colleagues through the impacts of long-covid and the adaptation to current ways of working, ensuring their wellbeing at all times. This guarantees that they are continually performing at their best when at work.
We work in accordance with all client Covid-19 protocols, adapting our working practices as is required for each individual contract need.
We have improved our Business Continuity Plans to ensure that any lessons learned from Covid-19 are integrated and mitigations in place to ensure that risk is managed appropriately should there be a pandemic in the future.
This has been developed with our customers in mind, accommodating all needs and ensuring that there is continued options for remote work, guaranteeing that the delivery of our contracts is not affected.Tackling economic inequality
We tackle economic vulnerability by working with our customers to achieve not only our own social value aims but theirs, achieved through:
- Recruitment
- Apprenticeships (where possible)
- Training and upskilling
- Career progression
- SME engagement
- Labour standards
- Volunteering
We engage local labour, promoting opportunities for hard to reach areas. This is done by assessing the needs of the local community and putting measures in place to ensure that all colleagues possess the appropriate skills and up-skill where required. This includes any extra-curricular training/opportunities post-contract for any contract specific staff members.
Given the shortages within the industry, we are always keen to support young people, NEETS, and the long-term unemployed (disadvantaged groups) into employment, and where we are able, we offer apprenticeships to local communities where we are delivering our contracts.
This usually is a result of candidates doing work experience which we promote as a minimum 4 times a year for 1 week – a day in the life of a Cyber Security Expert. Given the sensitivity of the work that we do within major government departments, we always carry out a full assessment and work with our clients to seek their approval, prior to anyone being engaged onto any work experience programmes.
We support local SMEs, engaging a minimum of 10% for specialist consultancy services to promote the growth and development of local enterprise.
All training and development opportunities are also offered to our supply chain, embedding a culture of continuous improvement and excellence across our entire delivery.
Our colleagues are encouraged to become involved in local volunteering and community activities. We also choose a charity of the year.
Using social value metrics allows us to monetise the values against the contract value and include them within the monthly commitments for our individual contracts.Equal opportunity
Cyber Security Defence Consultants promote equality amongst our business activities, ensuring that everyone is fairly and positively supported, and promoting the real Living Wage throughout our organisation.
This includes positives, such as, happiness, wellbeing, inclusion, equality, employment and the environment that people live and work in. We are excellent at providing additional support, away from contract delivery, and opportunities that we provide in terms of employment, training and educational opportunities.
We have a strong commitment to identifying capability/skills gaps and using employment and development solutions to deliver a skilled, sustainable, diverse workforce within our business and across our subcontract consultants.
The key is to work with our clients to ensure workplace diversity and inclusion, setting out clear objectives for each contract that we will deliver. Our Equality and Diversity Policies and Procedures are applied and we adapt them to the needs of our clients where required.Wellbeing
Cyber Security Defence Consultants provide a supportive and inclusive environment, ensuring that our colleagues are performing at their very best each and every day. We have an open door policy and promote the wellbeing of everyone we come into contact with on a daily basis.
Through regular communication, education, building capability, and supporting colleagues with needs, we have a demonstrable track record within wellbeing.
We promote clear messaging, proactive leadership, and safe and accessible spaces to talk, allowing us to break down stereotypes and remove stigma amongst colleagues surrounding people’s wellbeing and mental health.
Measures that we use include:
- Safe working spaces
- Training
- Wellbeing Webinars and open forums
- Contract-specific campaigns
- Mental Health First Aiders
- Wellbeing Surveys for Continuous Improvement purposes
We also ensure that our supply chain is part of this and we integrate bespoke action plans for any improvements across our organisation with a focus being on health & wellbeing.
The benefit of local action plans allows us to drive initiatives in line with local demographics, colleague feedback and local community programmes with wellbeing partners.
