Service constraints
Operator Connect depends on Microsoft 365, Teams Phone, and TeamsOnly mode. Service availability relies on qualified operators like Gamma and Microsoft Azure Peering for QoS. All SBCs are operator‑hosted, limiting on‑premises integration. Number provisioning must be done through Teams Admin Centre, and features align with Teams Phone capabilities. Calling availability, including premium or international routes, is subject to carrier and regulatory restrictions. Network performance must meet Microsoft’s voice requirements, and service changes depend on Microsoft’s APIs and operator maintenance schedules.
System requirements
  • Microsoft 365 licences assigned to all users needing PSTN calling.
  • Microsoft Teams Phone System enabled for all relevant organisation users.
  • Users operating in Microsoft TeamsOnly mode for full functionality.

End-of-contract data extraction
When an Operator Connect contract expires, users cannot directly extract data from the service, as it is a carrier system integrated with Microsoft Teams rather than a user-facing platform. Data ownership and extraction are managed by administrators at the organisation level.
Users can retain call history, voicemail, and Teams contacts stored in Microsoft 365, according to retention policies. Voicemail audio files in the user’s mailbox can be downloaded if permitted.

At contract end, PSTN calling is disabled, and phone numbers are either removed or ported to another operator by administrators. Carrier call recordings or network logs are not accessible to end users.
Administrators handle data extraction, including call detail records (CDRs), billing data, and reports, using the Microsoft Teams Admin Centre, Microsoft 365 compliance tools, or the operator’s portal. Phone numbers can also be ported to a new provider before the contract ends.

In summary, users maintain access to Microsoft 365–stored data like voicemails and call history, while administrators control all aspects of service termination, data export, and number management when an Operator Connect contract expires.
End-of-contract process
Opus recognises that every partnership may eventually conclude, and we ensure this phase is managed with the same professionalism as all others. Our Exit Management Plan is designed to deliver a smooth, transparent transition that protects both parties—financially, operationally, and reputationally—while maintaining service continuity.

We will work closely with  Buyers to minimise disruption and coordinate a seamless handover. Opus maintains an up-to-date inventory of communication assets and service levels, enabling us to create a tailored exit plan covering phased activities, resource allocation, and responsibilities.

A dedicated Exit Transition Manager from our Professional Services team will oversee the process, coordinating with  the Buyer, suppliers, and internal teams, providing consistent updates through to full contract closure.

The exit plan will define roles and responsibilities, maintain ongoing service until cessation, outline post‑cessation support, detail work‑in‑progress, manage asset return, and ensure full documentation and data transfer. It will also cover phased decommissioning, risk and issue management, knowledge transfer, and regular progress reporting.

By following this structured approach, Opus ensures minimal disruption, clear communication, and a well‑managed, professional conclusion to our partnership.

Customisation available
Yes
Description of customisation
Users can customise parts of the Operator Connect experience, but only through Microsoft Teams, as Operator Connect has no separate end-user interface. Within Teams settings, users can manage their audio devices such as headsets, speakers, and cameras, configure call forwarding, simultaneous ring, and voicemail, and set call answering rules and ringtones. If permitted, they may also enable call delegation. Additional customisation includes adjusting accessibility options like captions, high-contrast mode, and text size, managing notifications and call alerts, and choosing a preferred calling device such as desktop or mobile.

However, users cannot customise core service elements. Phone number assignment, calling plans, routing, operator selection, and compliance or calling policies are all managed by IT administrators. These settings are configured through the Microsoft Teams Admin Centre or the operator’s own management portal.

In summary, Operator Connect allows user-level personalisation within Teams to control how calls are handled, while administrators retain control over how the service is provisioned, secured, and delivered.

Scaling

Independence of resources
Operator Connect prevents users being affected by others’ demand through a resilient, carrier‑grade architecture. Gamma provides two geographically diverse network sites with traffic load‑shared across multiple redundant paths, ensuring capacity is never saturated by any single customer. Multiple Microsoft‑certified SBCs distribute signalling and media load, isolating tenants from each other’s usage. Dedicated Azure Peering Service (MAPS) connections guarantee stable, high‑quality routes into Microsoft’s cloud, preventing congestion from public internet traffic. This combination of carrier‑grade scaling, redundant SBC clusters, and dedicated peering ensures one organisation’s call volume cannot impact another’s service quality.

Data importing and exporting

Data export approach
Users cannot directly export Operator Connect service data, as it is a carrier‑level integration rather than a user‑facing platform. They can only retain items stored in Microsoft 365, such as Teams call history, contacts, and voicemail. Voicemail files can be downloaded from the user’s mailbox if permitted. All service-level data—including CDRs, billing information, usage reports, and number management—must be exported by administrators via the Teams Admin Centre, Microsoft 365 compliance tools, or the operator’s portal. When a contract ends, PSTN calling is disabled, and admins handle data extraction and number porting.

Availability and resilience

Guaranteed availability
Gamma Operator Connect provides a guaranteed service through a formal Service Level Agreement (SLA), ensuring reliability, performance, and support for Microsoft Teams telephony. The SLA covers service availability, typically guaranteeing 99.9% uptime, achieved through redundant network paths, resilient infrastructure, and continuous monitoring. This ensures that voice and PSTN calling remain operational with minimal downtime.

Call quality is actively monitored, including metrics such as latency, jitter, and packet loss. Voice traffic is prioritised across the network to maintain consistent quality and meet user expectations for clarity and reliability.
Support and incident management are included in the SLA. Gamma offers 24/7 technical support, with defined response times for incident acknowledgment, investigation, resolution, and escalation. Severity levels dictate prioritisation, ensuring critical outages are addressed promptly.

Guaranteed service also incorporates regulatory compliance and security, including adherence to ISO/IEC 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus, and UK telecommunications regulations.

In summary, Gamma Operator Connect ensures users have a reliable, secure, and supported telephony experience, with measurable uptime, monitored call quality, responsive support, and clear accountability through its SLA—giving organisations confidence in service continuity.

Outage reporting
During an outage, Opus ensures customers receive clear, timely, and proactive communication to maintain confidence and minimise disruption. As soon as an incident is detected or reported, customers receive an automatic email acknowledgement confirming that the issue has been logged. This notification includes the assigned severity level and the corresponding SLA response thresholds, ensuring users understand the urgency and expected handling of the outage.

Throughout the investigation, Opus technicians provide regular progress updates, keeping customers informed of diagnostic findings, any identified root causes, and the steps being taken to restore service. This continuous communication ensures transparency and helps customers plan around the disruption.

Customers can also track the live status of their outage via the Opus Customer Portal, which displays real‑time incident information, current severity, timers, and any updates posted by the support team. This self‑service visibility means users are never left waiting for manual updates and can access the latest details whenever needed.
Together, these communication channels—automated notifications, technician updates, and real‑time portal visibility—ensure that Opus keeps customers fully informed throughout every outage, supporting effective service management and maintaining trust.

Access restrictions in management interfaces and support channels
Management interfaces and support channels in Gamma Operator Connect are restricted to ensure only authorised personnel can access and modify systems. Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) enforces least-privilege permissions, while network restrictions limit access to trusted IPs or VPNs. Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds identity verification for admin accounts. Support channels are limited to verified customer contacts, often using PINs or identity checks. All administrative and support actions are logged and audited, with alerts for unusual activity. Segregation of duties ensures critical changes require multi-user verification, protecting the service from unauthorised access or misconfiguration.
