Guided Setup & Licensing: Unlike full-domain editions, the Teaching and Learning Upgrade is designed for flexible deployment. Administrators can assign licenses to specific users, groups, or organizational units (OUs) directly via the Google Admin Console.
Manual Assignment: Assign licenses individually to teachers who need premium features.
Bulk Assignment: Use the License Management Tool or CSV bulk upload to assign licenses to entire departments or staff groups efficiently.
Resources: Comprehensive guides and setup resources are available in the Admin Console to help you configure premium features like Practice Sets and Originality Reports. - Service documentation

Data Retention & Continuity: Upon contract expiration, your institution's data remains secure. The domain automatically reverts to the free Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals edition.
Data Integrity: Core user data—including Gmail, Drive files, and Classroom content—is not deleted.
Feature Access: Users will lose access to premium features immediately. For example, unlimited Originality Reports will revert to the limited free quota, and the ability to record meetings will be disabled (though existing recordings remain in Drive).
Storage Impact: The additional 100 GB of pooled storage per license will be removed. If this reduction causes your institution to exceed its remaining storage limit, users may be unable to upload new files or create new documents until space is freed up.
Key Implications:
Continuity: Users retain their existing login credentials; only premium features (such as advanced Meet capacity) are deactivated.
Portability: The service is not tied to a single vendor. At the contract's end, the license can be transferred to a different authorized reseller without downtime or migration.
Should you choose to leave the platform entirely, administrators retain full data ownership and can utilize the Data Export tool to extract all organizational data in standard formats before cancellation. - End-of-contract process
-
Subscription Management: At the end of the subscription term, you have three options:
Renew: Continue the service to maintain full access to premium teaching tools and the additional storage pool.
Adjust: Reduce the number of licenses if fewer staff members require premium features.
Cancel: If the contract is not renewed, the domain reverts to Education Fundamentals. This is an administrative change that causes no downtime for login or email access, but premium instructional tools will be deactivated. - Documentation accessibility standard

API usage in the Teaching and Learning Upgrade primarily focuses on classroom automation, instructional tool integration, and license efficiency.
Classroom Automation & Rostering: The Classroom API enables deep integration with your Student Information System (SIS). You can programmatically sync class rosters, create courses, and push back grades, ensuring that teachers and students always have the right resources without manual data entry.
License Management: Administrators can utilize the Admin SDK to automate the assignment of Teaching and Learning Upgrade licenses. This allows institutions to write scripts that automatically provision licenses to new staff members or specific departments, ensuring efficient use of your subscription.
Instructional Insights: The Reports API provides programmatic access to usage data, allowing you to track the adoption of premium features like Originality Reports and Google Meet recordings. This data helps validate the return on investment and identify training needs. - API documentation

Administrators customize the Google Workspace experience primarily through Organizational Units (OUs). By separating users (e.g., "Staff" vs. "Students") and devices into different OUs, you can apply distinct policies to each group rather than a "one-size-fits-all" approach.
User Policies: You can turn specific services (like YouTube or Google Chat) on or off for students while keeping them active for teachers. You can also enforce granular settings, such as preventing students from emailing outside the domain or restricting Google Drive sharing permissions.
Device Policies: For Chromebooks, admins can configure settings like "Kiosk mode" for exams, force re-enrollment to prevent theft, or pre-install specific apps and extensions. For mobile devices, you can enforce screen locks, encrypt data, and remotely wipe corporate data from personal devices (BYOD) without deleting personal photos.
For more complex needs, Configuration Groups allow you to apply settings to specific users across different OUs (e.g., allowing a specific "Year 12" project group to access YouTube even if the "Student" OU blocks it).
