Fighting climate change
Every property processed through Iris, has its Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), and carbon footprint logged.
Improvements generated through refurbishment works in both EPC and carbon footprint are logged and tracked in Iris. We are able to benchmark performance of those properties against national net-zero targets. - Tackling economic inequality
-
Tackling economic inequality
Iris is an online system that allows local authorities and other public sector bodies, identify, secure and upgrade suitable affordable housing in their communities.
The system calculates different financial viability models (incorporating government grant where required) to provide truly affordable housing for the most vulnerable and economically disadvantaged in society.
Iris also tracks energy performance and energy upgrades in each property delivered, to help ensure the most energy efficient housing is provided, which in turn will help tenants better manage their energy costs.
Through the renovation works carried out, we source local labour and building supplies, bringing additional investment into local economies. We also see to provide apprenticeships where possible, to help provide young with direct and relevant work experience. - Equal opportunity
-
Equal opportunity
We tackle workforce inequality by paying above the living wage, and providing working opportunities to local people in the communities that we work in. We always look to provide apprenticeship programmes to help train young people and give them a meaningful work experience, which can always lead to full time employment. - Wellbeing
-
Wellbeing
It is well documented that a stable home environment (affordable, tenancy based, good quality) is the foundation to mental wellbeing. Iris helps local authorities and other public bodies identify suitable affordable housing for local residents. This is often in the form of a housing solution to remove people from unsuitable emergency hostel/B&B style accommodation.
Nearly 100,000 households live in temporary accommodation in the UK, for every child living in temporary accommodation they live with the real risk of continued disruption of schooling and friendship groups. This temporary nature of living means families (and children) cannot start to grow roots in their communities. All of this leads to a detriment in people's wellbeing.
The work that Iris facilitates helps families live in good quality stable homes, thus giving people a chance to improve both their mental and physical well being.
