Scaling

Independence of resources
Dedicated consultancy resource(s) will be assigned to deliver this service. Any discovery tools deployed will be dedicated to the Client.

From a platform perspective, as a multi-tenant model, Azure enables multiple user workloads sharing the same physical hardware to achieve economies of scale.

To manage performance and security in this shared model, Azure logically isolates each the user’s virtual machines at the hypervisor layer and isolates network traffic with boundaries, and network packet filters. Resource governance is enabled to prevent any single user's heavy usage from overwhelming shared resources and impacting other users.

Other protection between networks
Where a private network connection is required between the buyer's network and Azure, then an Azure ExpressRoute can be provisioned.

Azure ExpressRoute provides a dedicated network connection between an organisation's data center and Azure. This connection is isolated from the public internet and provides a secure, high-speed connection for data in transit.

This can be configured with IPSec VPN, MacSec or 3rd party solution to provide encryption.
Data protection within supplier network
  • TLS (version 1.2 or above)
  • IPsec or TLS VPN gateway
  • Other
Other protection within supplier network
Azure uses a combination of encryption, network isolation, secure protocols, and managed services to protect data in transit and ensure the security, and privacy of Client/User data.

Availability and resilience

Guaranteed availability
This service does not offer a specific Service Level Agreement (SLA) as it is not a standalone service. However, Azure provides SLAs for the individual services and resources that are used to build and operate a Landing Zone environment.

For example, Azure provides SLAs for services such as Azure Compute, Storage, Azure Network, Azure SQL, etc services, which are commonly used in a Landing Zone environment.
These SLAs provide guarantees around service availability, performance, and other metrics.

In addition to SLAs, Azure provides a variety of support options for customers using Azure services. These support options range from basic documentation and forums to 24/7 technical support and dedicated technical account managers.

Overall, customers can rely on the SLAs and support options provided by Azure for the individual services and resources used in their Landing Zone environment to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability.
Approach to resilience
Azure Datacentres are designed to be resilient by incorporating best practices and design patterns that help ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery.

By leveraging these design principles, organisations can build and operate an Azure environment that is resilient and can withstand unexpected events or disruptions.

Azure is designed to use a multi-region architecture to ensure high availability and fault tolerance. This means that resources are deployed across multiple regions to ensure that if one Azure-side service is affected, the resources can be failed over to another configured/deployed region.

Any business-critical workloads will be designed and deployed high availability and resilience in mind.
Outage reporting
Azure does not report outages directly, as it is not a standalone
service. However, Azure provides several services that can be used to monitor and report outages in an Azure environment.

By adopting these services, organisations can stay informed about the health of their Azure environment and take proactive steps to ensure high availability, reliability, and performance.

Additional sources of cost
Unmanaged cloud activity can increase costs and risk for public sector buyers. Key drivers include data movement (inter‑region/zone egress, CDN origin fetches, Azure ExpressRoute metered egress, AWS NAT Gateway, Google Cloud Interconnect/NAT), storage and backup (snapshot sprawl, cold‑tier retrieval, Azure Archive rehydration, AWS Glacier tier fees, Google Coldline early deletion), compute/database inefficiencies (oversized instances, unattached disks/IPs, mis‑tuned autoscaling, misaligned reserved commitments), observability/serverless overhead (log ingestion/retention in Azure Log Analytics, AWS CloudWatch, Google Cloud Logging; serverless retries and event fan‑out), licensing/marketplace charges, and governance gaps (untagged resources, idle dev/test).
Insight mitigates these risks with egress‑aware architecture reviews, commitment management, tagging and lifecycle policies, budget alerts, and chargeback frameworks aligned to ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials and NCSC guidance. Changes are validated against performance, security and compliance requirements prior to implementation to avoid service disruption. Typical engagements reduce unmanaged cost growth by 20–30%, improving accountability through transparent reporting and showback/chargeback. Continuous optimisation ensures commitments track actual usage and observability and storage footprints remain controlled, helping buyers maintain predictable budgets, meet governance obligations and reinvest savings into priority services.
