Onboarding and offboarding
- Getting started
-
Set up of Tableau ranges from 1 day for installing Tableau Server on your organisation's existing hardware inside a firewall with existing visibility of the source data) to 3-5 days (new hardware, high availability, outside firewall).
Tableau is very much about self service analytics so there is a strong focus on enablement and empowerment.
Tableau has a wealth of free online lessons that allow self paced training.
InterWorks has a team of accredited Tableau trainers who can deliver official Tableau training either onsite to your team or individuals can attend our regular training courses (usually held in London).

- End-of-contract data extraction
- Tableau Server serves up analytics by either a) having a live connection to data held elsewhere or b) queries data held elsewhere to create a small snapshotted extract of that data. In both cases the source data stays in situ and is independent of the Tableau install. This means that at the end of the contract period the source data remains in its source location and whatever data Tableau Server has taken snapshots of would be deleted along with the install (which has no effect on the source data). Tableau Server has no native ability to edit or delete any of the source data from which it generates its analytics.
- End-of-contract process
-
At the end of the contract the licences expire, users are no longer able to log in and access the service. If the hardware providing the service is a cloud service such as Amazon Web Services this instance would be deleted.
There are no additional costs for an organisation wishing to end a contract.

- API
- Yes
- What users can and can't do using the API
- Several APIs available to automate or enhance aspects of the standard platform: REST, Extract, Document, Javascript, Web Data Connector and Extensions (in beta May18). A small number of specific functions are not relevant (or available) when using the Tableau Online Platform as they relate to the Tableau Server (hybrid-cloud) Platform instead. These differences are clearly identified in the online help pages. For example, search online for 'Tableau onlinehelp API Reference'. The REST API can be used for managing users, groups and sites, updating workbooks or datasources and Integrating Tableau content with a custom app or portal. Extract API can be used to create data extracts that improve performance and provide offline access to data. Document API is used to create and deploy templates or migrate workbooks from test to production data sources. Javascript API for embedding Tableau into custom web applications. Allows a bi-directional communication between Tableau and the host application. Web Data Connector: connect to any data via HTTP/HTTPS, providing an HTML interface to end-user, storing into data extracts. Also allows automatic refreshes and authentication. Extensions API can open up a range of capabilities from 'write-back' to custom interface options and bi-directional communication between Tableau and guest application.

- Only users you explicitly add to your site have access to your content and workbooks. Administrators that you designate are responsible for all account management functions including adding and removing users and assigning permissions. Account management is completely in your control. SAML allows administrators to configure their site for single sign on using their own SAML 2.0 capable identity provider (IdP). For additional information refer to the Site Authentication section of the Online Product Guide. Note: Features related to SAML and single sign-on are currently only available by request. To request these features, contact Tableau Support.
- Access restrictions in management interfaces and support channels
- Access to the configuration settings for the platform and to published content is dependent on the Role of the user (determined at the Authentication login step), and the Security permissions model put in place by the customer's Site Administrator. There are many capabilities that are limited in this way, from the ability to download a particular dataset to the capability of publishing an item to the shared environment. For more details search the Tableau Online Help pages for 'Content Permissions and Ownership'

- Information security policies and processes
-
We have a detailed IT Policy (Security and Internet) which we can make available on demand. The key points of which are:
Roles and responsibilities - the policies are established, monitored and breaches investigated by the directors, but at a core level everyone has a responsibility for security.
Monitoring - we reserve the right to monitor employee use of IT resources, tracking and remote wipe software is installed on all devices
Damage and loss - defined actions in the event of damage or loss of equipment
Misuse and vandalism
Specific guidelines concerning encryption and security admin policies of portable devices, memory sticks, mobile phones, laptops, AV software, email attachments, commitments in emails, IM systems, licensing of software, and password policies.

- Supplier-defined controls
- Configuration and change management approach
-
At the individual install level, any changes to content published to Tableau Server is tracked through the built in version control so that if a user amends or updates a particular dashboard then they have the capacity to roll back to prior versions.
In terms of the release of software updates to the Tableau Server (Hybrid-Cloud) Platform, Tableau operates a cadence where updates made available 4 times per year, on a quarterly basis. It is the responsibility of the customer to implement and test the software updates in their own implementation. - Vulnerability management type
- Supplier-defined controls
- Vulnerability management approach
- The Tableau Security team cares deeply about the security of our products and the data that our customers entrust to us. We will thoroughly investigate any reported vulnerability that jeopardizes either. Once a vulnerability is fully investigated and its content addressed, we will work with you to disclose the vulnerability in a way that acknowledges your work and protects our customers. All security-related notifications will be announced to our customers via the Security Bulletins community page: https://community.tableau.com/community/security-bulletins. This page also details our response to Internet-wide vulnerabilities that impact Tableau products, release notes about security bug fixes and disclosed vulnerabilities.
- Protective monitoring type
- Supplier-defined controls
- Protective monitoring approach
- In relation to Tableau Platform, there is no specific Protective Monitoring standard in place. Customers who implement the Tableau Server (Hybrid-Cloud) Platform are encouraged to ensure the implementation and security infrastructure are aligned with any internal policies and regulations.
- Incident management type
- Supplier-defined controls
- Incident management approach
-
User reported incidents go to our support desk for triage. If the support desk cannot resolve it immediately it is escalated to the correct specialist within the team.
Incidents discovered by our team would be notified directly to the client. Minor issues would usually be resolved then alerted. Major issues would be alerted first and then the focus would move on to resolution.
Incidents are reported via email
We use an industry-leading ticket-tracking platform that conforms to the ITIL standard.
