- API
- Yes
- What users can and can't do using the API
- Valamis API is a secure REST-based API that allows 3rd party systems to interact with Valamis. It allows the systems to interact with Valamis. It allows the systems to interact with Valamis for example regarding learning paths, training events, courses, learning modules, certificates and recommendations. There are functions for both reading data from Valamis and updating Valamis data. It allows for example the systems to pull the information on learning paths, learning modules, and training events for external catalogues, enrol people in learning paths, and get the progress and completion statuses for learning paths. For reading and writing data into the Valamis Learning Record Store (LRS), we provide a standard LRS API for sending your xAPI statements into Valamis LRS or pulling learning data from it. This API implements the ADL’s xAPI standard interface and is supported by any xAPI supported platform. In addition to the Valamis API and LRS API, the user provisioning and synchronisation can be done using our standard SCIM (System for Cross-Domain for Identity Management ) API.

- Description of customisation
- The Valamis Learning Solution is a fully customisable and highly scalable platform built around customer needs. The site structure and pages, pages layouts, tools used and all content and learner management structures are fully customisable. These are controlled by admin rights and changes made by admin users will impact all learners in the platform. Valamis has an advanced and secure system of users, roles and permission rights which allows the granularity to define every role and its permissions. It also grants and prevents access e.g to specific content, sites, features. Admin users can configure these permission rights based on simple to follow system screens with check box options to permit or demy access (system functionality or content access). Valamis user experience (UX) design and implementation teams can design and build a brand-specific look and feel for the solution, to match Customer or Marketing brand standards, and enhance the learner engagement. This is achieved in partnership with the Customer.
Scaling
- Independence of resources
- Valamis is a multi-tenant service, which means that multiple Customer deployments and Virtual Machines (VMs) are stored on the same environment. To manage this, Valamis has autoscaling and continuous monitoring in place. Valamis used built in logical isolation, tenant ID, to segregate each Customer’s data from the data of others. Segregation provides the scale and economic benefits of multi-tenant services while rigorously preventing Customers from accessing one another’s data.

Valamis commits to maintaining the Product’s availability rate 99.9% continuously throughout the year, calculated monthly. This rate excludes any planned downtime required for updates, changes, or fixes to the Product. Valamis ensures that such planned downtime is kept to a maximum of 4 hours per month. The maintenance window shall be scheduled and communicated in advance by Valamis. Valamis shall not be liable for any such downtime attributable to the Customer’s systems or actions, Third Party Products, or other similar facts that are not within the Supplier’s control.
In case the Product’s availability rate is less than 99.9% to reasons attributable to Valamis only, the Customer shall be entitled to claim service credits from the Supplier as follows:
99–99.89% – 5% Service Credit
98–98.99% – 10% Service Credit
<98% – 15% Service Credit
The service credits are calculated from the fixed monthly fee of the month in question when the incident occurred. - Approach to resilience
- Valamis uses Azure AKS services with automated scaling options. High Availability is achieved through usage of availability zones where services are distributed over separate physical datacenters with separate infrastructures. More information can be found in Microsoft’s documentation: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/overview/trusted
- Outage reporting
- Planned breaks are communicated to the customers well before the time, via email, and the breaks are scheduled to be performed during agreed maintenance windows. We schedule the maintenance window for you in a way that it is outside your peak usage windows, such as during the night hours. Significant unplanned disruptions and outages are communicated to the customer via email and minor disruptions and outages are covered in regular SLA reviews with the customer. Unplanned outages are measured using Pingdom. If the Customer has reported an incident they will be able to track progress and resolution updates by Valamis’ ticketing system, Zendesk. In addition to this, the Customer’s dedicated Learning Solution Partner is available should further investigation or advice be needed.
