End-of-contract data extraction
Customers have the ability to delete their data anytime using the same methods they used for uploading it. This can be done either over their network (via the internet or express route) or through Azure’s Import/Export services. For more information, you can refer to the Microsoft Trust Center Privacy page -https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/trustcenter/privacy
End-of-contract process
Please refer to the Microsoft Trust Center Privacy page. In our Online Services Terms, Microsoft commits to specific processes when a customer leaves a cloud service or when their subscription expires. This commitment includes deleting customer data from systems under our control. If you terminate a cloud subscription or it expires(except for free trials), Microsoft retains your customer data in a limited-function account for 90days (the ‘retention period’). During this time, Microsoft provides multiple notices to ensure you are well-informed about the impending data deletion. After the 90-day retention period, Microsoft disables the account and permanently deletes customer data, including any cached or back up copies. For services covered by our Data Processing Terms (defined in the Online Services Terms), deletion occurs within 90 days after the retention period ends.https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/trust-center/privacy/data-management

For data in transit, Azure employs industry-standard secure transport protocols. These include TLS/SSL for communication between user devices and Microsoft data centres. Additionally, you can enable encryption for traffic between your virtual machines (VMs) and users. Azure Virtual Networks allow you to use the widely accepted IPsec protocol to encrypt traffic between your corporate VPN gateway and Azure, as well as between VMs within your Virtual Network.

Additional sources of cost
USD‑to‑GBP exchange rates apply and could increase overall costs. Management and support services are not included in the base price, and additional charges may arise from data transfer and bandwidth usage. Further cost considerations include licensing and third‑party software, as well as management, monitoring and security add‑ons. Organisations should also be aware of potential early‑termination fees and the financial impact of under‑utilised reservations.
-
Additional sources of cost reduction
Additional sources of cost reduction in Microsoft Azure include the use of Reserved Instances and Azure Savings Plans, which provide discounted pricing for predictable workloads. Costs can also be reduced by right sizing resources and eliminating idle capacity, ensuring that virtual machines, storage and other services align closely with actual demand. Applying lifecycle policies to move infrequently accessed data into storage tiers further lowers expenditure. Strong governance through budgets and cost management tools maintains control and accountability across the environment. Finally, intelligent automation and real time optimisation streamline resource allocation, reducing waste and driving continuous, efficient cost management. Additional project and sector specific discounts may apply.
