Fighting climate change

ETHOS as a professional services company, currently we fall under the £5M limit with respect to Carbon Reduction Planning. However, we have strong environmental values, and our environmental impact is already exceptionally low. ETHOS business plans have made a carbon pledge to be net-zero by 2025, explicitly linked with an environmental management system (ISO 14001) accreditation by 2023, wherever applicable to our business. This objective we feel will complement our planned ISO 27001 accreditation, together with our in-situ DCB 0129 Clinical Risk Management System. These strategies will help to proactively address areas for continuous improvement in business and sustainability.
Our environmental policy sets out requirements for energy efficiency and to continuously improve our environmental performance:
• Reduction of and improvements in resource consumption (by improving efficient usage). • Reduction of our carbon footprint for all business activities (including key performance measures).
• Waste management across all areas of the business, incorporating reduction, re-use, and recycling in accordance with the principles of the waste hierarchy.
• Ensure environmental criteria is considered in the procurement of goods and services. • Certification to ISO 14001 by 2023 and on-going compliance through rigorous annual monitoring and review.
• Stakeholder engagement (including clients) are made aware of our environmental policy to ensure business is conducted appropriately. This will include the promotion of sustainability and environmental issues in the services provided, for example: o Fully digital and zero paper based processes, and deliverables o A 100% online engagement with clients wherever possible, with voluntary carbon credit schemes if travel is necessary.

Covid-19 recovery

COVID-19 had minimal impact on ETHOS. Due to the nature of our professional services business (expert digital health advisory services) we worked remotely throughout the pandemic. Our Human Resources / People function is managed by experts Smart HR, ensuring that our HR function is compliant with employment legislation, drive our sustainable performance improvement and achieve our people management objectives post pandemic (recovery), which include:
• Engagement and wellbeing programmes, policies, procedures, and staff handbooks • Reward and recognition framework
• Training and development programme (including return to work/re-training) • Performance management framework • People management coaching to line managers • Talent and succession planning framework • Employment contracts – both contractor and permanent employees
ETHOS is active in providing and achieving our clients with post-pandemic health strategies. In line with our environmental and sustainability objectives, all our training services are now provided online using MS Teams. This is our solution of choice for all client engagement, although other tools are available. The subject matter expertise within ETHOS have enabled the following services to be provided within the UK NHS:
• NHS COVID App • NHS DHSC Test and Trace service • NHS X Digital Clinical Safety Strategy • COVID-19 Wristband Tracking Research project (Innovate UK), in partnership with University of Leeds
• ETHOS charitable works include professional services delivered to: o CardMedic – communication tool o DigiBete – remote diabetes management o STEM4 – teenage mental health
All of which directly contribute to the post pandemic recovery and NHS strategies for remote patient monitoring, and long term covid responses and health.

Tackling economic inequality

As a professional services company, tackling economic inequality is part of our business growth plans. Our business policy provides us with the objectives of working with other organisations that align with our company size, values, and regional location. For example:
• ETHOS supply chain prioritises local SMEs alongside our sustainability goals. • Collaboration and co-working relationships are developed with organisations who reflect our values and provide services we cannot.
• Business growth planning is enabled through the UK Help to Grow framework and our established links with local academic experts provide us with the insight to further achieve our goals and leverage the intelligence to maintain our plan.
• An ongoing commitment to business management excellence through industry specific management systems including cyber security and information security compliance.
The quality and consistency of the services we offer relies upon internal expertise without outsourcing any work. Our business is located in scalable offices within regional business hub. This ensures we source locally and support businesses in our region and sector as a priority.

Equal opportunity

The ETHOS approach is to lead the sector based on our values and commitment to qual ity improvement in health and care utilisation of technology solutions for patient benefit . ETHOS values diversity and inclusion in the workplace, with our clients and through our collaboration partnerships. Guided by our values and governed by our HR / People function, we employ people from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities. This creates the safe environment and work space where our people can develop and grow without issue. Our HR function provides the right inhouse training to maintain standards and guide our growth alongside our values, this is periodically measured for effectiveness as part of our management system. Through this inhouse training we ensure our people are upskilled and ready for work, inclusive and respectful in everything they do.
Our business objectives and growth plan include building a diverse, inclusive, healthy, and empowered workforce. We also have a responsibility to the community in which we work locally, both those we work in and beyond to help reduce inequality, raise aspirations, and promote social and digital inclusion.

Wellbeing

ETHOS operates a work from home policy as a default to all new people we bring into the company. We recognise that we need to support our people who look towards a healthier work / life balance, be closer to their families and as part of our sustainability goals. We have maintained our work from home policy for all our people who wish to, and support is provided through our outsourced HR partner SmartHR. ETHOS provides our people with assistance and access if needed to recognised health and wellbeing services. Our focus on wellbeing complements our inclusion and sustainability objectives and goals. ETHOS promotes a strong and healthy workplace where our people can be safe to express themselves and perform at their best.
