Our approach to planning projects is much like our approach to delivery: we will do it in conjunction with you and tailor our approach to reflect your project’s goals, your ambition, and your particular constraints. We will use our extensive experience in implementing cloud hosting & software services to provide a suggested outline plan, and then refine this in conjunction with you. Our approach is agile, and we will help you deliver an MVP early to prove the case for change.
While planning cloud projects we ensure that right focus is given to:
1. Business value and cost drivers
2. Maturity of the deploying and end-user organisations
3. Security and privacy constraints and concerns
4. Data integration requirements
5. Architecture requirements
6. Skills and capabilities in place to manage the cloud services
7. Compliance requirements
8. Existing outsourced arrangements where relevant, particularly service levels from cloud infrastructure providers - Planning service works with specific services

BCG’s approach to training is to focus on capability transfer through a “Learn one, do one, teach one” methodology. This leaves our clients not only able to use new skills themselves, but also to share them and develop their colleagues.
In terms of technical operation and management of software, where we develop Cloud services for our clients, we train staff to use and manage these. We also offer this in the deployment of third party software.
However our focus on capability transfer extends throughout the delivery of our projects. We create opportunities for formal and informal training, to ensure client teams and individuals are best-equipped to drive and deliver progress themselves. This includes, but is not limited to:
1. Formal and informal feedback and coaching sessions for senior stakeholders and managers such as SROs, Project / Programme Directors, designed to accelerate delivery and improve leadership behaviours
2. On the job peer-to-peer coaching and support of client team members in soft and technical skills
3. Delivery of formal classroom training, either related to the new cloud service or supporting services being implemented, or in strategy consulting skills (e.g. storylining, slidewriting, problem solving, presence & influence) - Training is tied to specific services

Our services help clients migrate to the cloud or between cloud services. We support our clients with:
1. Conducting an analysis of the current state, identifying
2. Building business case for migrating to the cloud or between cloud service providers
3. Identifying the target state –(which services and applications) and platform selection (public, private, hybrid cloud)
4. Preparing for the migration by defining operating model changes required to support the target state, including high level organisation implications
5. Market analysis to prepare for further procurement and contracting
6. Sourcing and contract negotiation
7. Definition of target technology and data architecture
8. Creation of clear implementation roadmap- including milestones, owners and support required to achieve the target state - Setup or migration service is for specific cloud services

All our cloud services have quality assurance built in through our international network of experts and Partners who we will bring to bear on each project. We provide specific cloud project Quality Assurance through our De-Risking A Cloud Project service, which addresses the typical causes of failure in cloud projects, aims to de-risk delivery, and can be applied to in-flight projects or projects in their early stages. We have four types of engagement model, depending on the level of de-risking/ QA required:
1. BCG activist PMO: For large and complex projects we take an “activist PMO” role, taking on execution and management responsibilities designed to ensure the project delivers to its objectives
2. QA with deep dives: For medium size projects, we can conduct a one-off QA exercise, and deep dive on select areas of concern
3. Light QA: For medium projects that have specific knowledge needs, we can provide a BCG expert as a part of the core team
4. Project health check: For smaller projects, we do one off health checks to confirm to the sponsor that the project is set up for success

Fighting climate change
We will fight climate change by:
· Applying our leading Total Societal Impact (TSI) model to ensure all 6 dimensions of societal impact are addressed | e.g. ensuring sustianability considerations are quantified and included
· Directly involving our leading global experts | we have 550 dedicated experts in our global Center for Climate and Sustainability and 100+ global experts on broader social impact. We will involve them directly, e.g., by including a series of training sessions under Call Offs on latest best practice in sustainability in industry and public sector as part of our Cloud offer
· Bringing a clear ‘day 1’ view on biggest opportunities to improve social value | e.g. on environment, an ingoing view is the opportunity to reduce consumption & enable R&I efficiencies through tech
· Incorporating HMG’s Social Value Model and guidance | we are very familiar with HMG’s SVM and aware of how contingent HMG’s 2050 target is on fulfilling decarbonisation opportunities under each Call Off
· Developing a Social Value & Sustainability Action Plan | for Call Offs, offering a written plan on how to bring Social Value into strategy and delivery of our Cloud services. We will review progress against KPIs developed and agreed with the Client
· Appointing a named Social Value & Sustainability Officer (SVSO) | Our Project Manager will be responsible for delivering the Action Plan and will report on progress using an executive dashboard. We recommend Client's nominate a champion to work with their own climate change and sustainability (CCS) personnel to ensure alignment and sharing of learnings.
We will draw on our deep TSI database of metrics and benchmarks and combined them with HMG’s social value policy metrics, to monitor, measure and communicate the climate/environmental performance of Call Offs under this Framework.Wellbeing
Our Wellbeing@BCG programme and associated benefits package is industry leading. It aligns to the six standards of the Mental Health at Work Commitment and the recommendations in the Stevenson/Farmer review of mental health and employers (Thriving at Work). Components include:
· Health and wellbeing benefits: from free fitness, wellness and mindfulness classes to structured employee assistance programmes, our core employee benefits promote physical and mental health and wellbeing
· Flexible working support and practices: subject to client requests, we offer flexible working to our staff, whether that be part time models (60 – 90% models are common), or persistent working from home arrangements. All our people are proficient teaming in virtual environments, receive training in key collaboration tools
· Psychological safety training and working practices: creating an environment where people can be their authentic selves is critical to inclusion, mental and physical health. Our staff undergo mandatory training (>20 hours) on psychological safety and how to create it in case teams and with clients, and it is a key principle of how our teams operate day to day.
Under Call Offs, we can support Wellbeing by:
· Jointly agreeing a Health and Wellbeing Plan; and appointing a dedicated lead. We will tailor and agree the key health and wellness interventions; codified in a Team Norms and Health & Wellbeing Plan (HWP). This will include expectations on physical location, psychological safety, predictability, teaming and open communication.
· Deploying our “Predictability, Teaming and Open Communication (PTO)” approach: For sustainable teaming and a healthy work-life balance, we will appoint a professional facilitator trained in psychological safety, team and personal wellbeing, and agile ways of working. Our PTO approach includes weekly discussions, covering value creation for clients plus how each member of the team is developing.
