Upon contract expiration, your institution's data remains secure and accessible. Education Standard functions as an upgrade to the standard Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals edition. Consequently, if the paid subscription is not renewed, your domain automatically reverts to the free Fundamentals edition.
Key Implications:
Data Retention: Core user data—including Gmail, Drive files, and Classroom content—remains intact and is not deleted.
Continuity: Users retain their existing login credentials; only premium features (e.g. Security Center, Context-Aware Access) and the ability to export logs to BigQuery.
Portability: The service is not tied to a single vendor. At the contract's end, the license can be transferred to a different authorized reseller without downtime or migration.
Should you choose to leave the platform entirely, administrators retain full data ownership and can utilize the Data Export tool to extract all organizational data in standard formats before cancellation. - End-of-contract process
-
At the conclusion of the subscription term, the institution has three flexible pathways, ensuring no vendor lock-in:
Renew: Continue the service for another term to maintain full access to all premium security and analytics features.
Downgrade: If the contract is not renewed, the domain automatically reverts to the free Education Fundamentals edition. No data is deleted; however, administrators will lose access to premium security capabilities (e.g., Security Center, Context-Aware Access) and the ability to export logs to BigQuery.
Transfer: The subscription can be moved to a different authorized reseller at any time. This process is administrative only and causes zero downtime or service interruption for end-users.
Pricing Inclusions & Exclusions
Included in the License Price:
Education Standard Suite: Access to advanced security, analytics, and management tools (e.g., Security Center, Investigation Tool, BigQuery exports).
Standard Support: Access to Google’s support team for technical issues.
Additional Costs (Not Included):
Chrome Education Upgrades: Management licenses for Chromebook hardware are sold separately.
AI Add-ons: Premium AI features (e.g., Gemini for Education) require a separate add-on license.
Professional Services: In-depth training, migration services, or third-party backup solutions provided by the reseller. - Documentation accessibility standard

Administrators can leverage the Admin Console in Education Standard to proactively secure and manage their domain with enterprise-grade tools. The exclusive Security Center provides a real-time dashboard and an Investigation Tool that allows admins to not just identify but instantly remediate threats (like deleting malicious emails) directly from the console.
You can enforce granular security policies using Context-Aware Access, which restricts entry based on device health, IP, or location. Additionally, admins gain deep visibility by exporting audit logs to BigQuery for custom analytics and can manage mobile fleets with Advanced Endpoint Management to wipe data or enforce strong encryption. - Accessibility testing

- API
- Yes
- What users can and can't do using the API
-
API usage in Google Workspace for Education Standard primarily focuses on automation, security, and advanced analytics.
Administration & Security Automation: Administrators can use the Admin SDK to script complex workflows. Uniquely, Education Standard opens up advanced security endpoints, allowing your team to build custom tools that query Investigation Tool data to detect specific threats (like phishing patterns) and trigger auto-remediation actions (such as instantly suspending a compromised account) without human intervention.
Data Analytics (BigQuery): Education Standard enables a direct data pipeline to BigQuery. You can export massive datasets of usage and audit logs to run custom SQL queries. This allows for granular reporting on security trends and tool adoption that is impossible with standard Admin Console reports. - API documentation

- Customisation available
- Yes
- Description of customisation
-
Administrators customize the Google Workspace experience primarily through Organizational Units (OUs). By separating users (e.g., "Staff" vs. "Students") and devices into different OUs, you can apply distinct policies to each group rather than a "one-size-fits-all" approach.
User Policies: You can turn specific services (like YouTube or Google Chat) on or off for students while keeping them active for teachers. You can also enforce granular settings, such as preventing students from emailing outside the domain or restricting Google Drive sharing permissions.
Device Policies: For Chromebooks, admins can configure settings like "Kiosk mode" for exams, force re-enrollment to prevent theft, or pre-install specific apps and extensions. For mobile devices, you can enforce screen locks, encrypt data, and remotely wipe corporate data from personal devices (BYOD) without deleting personal photos.
For more complex needs, Configuration Groups allow you to apply settings to specific users across different OUs (e.g., allowing a specific "Year 12" project group to access YouTube even if the "Student" OU blocks it).
