End-of-contract data extraction
The end-of-contract data extraction process is highly flexible, as Tanium Cloud does not "lock in" your data. Buyers maintain full ownership and can extract their estate's telemetry at any time using built-in platform features.

Automated Bulk Export (Tanium Connect) The primary method for extracting large-scale data is Tanium Connect. Users can configure "Connections" to send all gathered endpoint data, audit logs, and compliance findings to external destinations.

Manual Export (Self-Service) Administrators can manually export data directly from the Tanium Console without intervention from Tanium support.
End-of-contract process
Tanium Cloud is designed to ensure buyers retain full ownership of their data. The termination process follows a structured decommissioning workflow:

Data Extraction Phase: Before the contract expiration date, buyers are responsible for extracting their data. As described previously, this is typically done via Tanium Connect (for bulk export of logs and inventory to S3 or SIEM) or the Tanium Console (for manual report exports).

Instance Deactivation: On the contract end date, administrative access to the Tanium Console is disabled. The "Linear Chain" communication with endpoints is severed, and the Tanium Cloud instance enters a "Suspended" state.

Data Retention & Deletion: In accordance with the Tanium Data Processing Addendum (DPA), customer data is typically retained for 30 days following termination to account for emergency recovery requests. After this window, the customer-specific cloud environment, including all cached telemetry in the Tanium Data Service (TDS), is securely purged and the underlying infrastructure is reclaimed.

Endpoint Clean-up: The buyer is responsible for uninstalling the Tanium Client from their estate. This can be done using a final "Uninstall" action deployed via Tanium itself before the service ends, or via third-party tools like Microsoft Intune or SCCM.

Scaling

Independence of resources
Tanium Cloud ensures resource independence through logical instance isolation. Each customer operates in a dedicated, secure environment with unique encryption keys, preventing data or processing overlap. The "noisy neighbor" effect is eliminated by elastic scaling, which dynamically allocates compute power to meet specific tenant demands. Furthermore, Tanium’s Linear Chain architecture offloads data distribution to the local network, reducing the central cloud load. Finally, API rate limiting and throttling ensure that individual spikes in activity are contained, guaranteeing consistent performance and stability for all users regardless of global service demand.

Data importing and exporting

Data export approach
Users export data from Tanium Cloud using three primary methods. For automated bulk transfers, Tanium Connect schedules data delivery to external destinations like S3 buckets, SIEMs, or databases in formats such as JSON, CSV, and CEF. For manual, ad-hoc requirements, administrators can download any report or real-time query result directly from the console as a CSV file. Finally, the GraphQL-based Tanium Gateway API allows for programmatic extraction, enabling custom scripts to retrieve structured JSON data for integration into internal workflows. These methods ensure buyers maintain full control and portability of their telemetry throughout and at the end of the contract.

Availability and resilience

Guaranteed availability
Tanium Cloud is hosted in the AWS London (eu-west-2) region using a multi-Availability Zone architecture to ensure maximum resilience for UK Public Sector customers. The service provides a 99.9% monthly uptime guarantee, which limits unplanned downtime to approximately 43 minutes per month, excluding scheduled maintenance windows (typically 1:00 AM – 5:00 AM UTC). If this availability threshold is not met, Tanium offers financial recompense in the form of Service Credits, providing a 10% credit for uptime between 99.0% and 99.9%, and a 25% credit if uptime falls below 99.0%. To claim these credits, buyers must submit a support request within 30 days of the month the service breach occurred, ensuring a transparent and accountable process for maintaining high-performance endpoint management.
Approach to resilience
Tanium Cloud is designed for 'always-on' resilience by utilizing a Multi-Availability Zone architecture within the AWS London region. This setup eliminates single points of failure at the data centre level through automated failover, self-healing service components, and synchronously replicated databases. Combined with daily encrypted backups and an annually tested Disaster Recovery Plan, Tanium ensures that critical endpoint management and security functions remain available to the UK Public Sector even during significant infrastructure disruptions.
Outage reporting
Tanium Cloud ensures transparency through a comprehensive outage reporting system featuring a public status dashboard, automated email alerts, and in-console notifications via Tanium Guide. Buyers can also leverage the Tanium REST API to integrate service health data into their own monitoring tools. This multi-channel approach guarantees that UK Public Sector customers have real-time visibility into platform availability and are proactively notified of any scheduled maintenance or service disruptions.
